Hey everybody..thanks for your help....I'm buying the East Yorkshire Parish Disc.....I'll let you know what I find!!
I wonder if Susannah's middle name was Ellott/Elliott??
I can't believe she married three maybe four times!! She was only 44 when she died!

Derek Report 4 Dec 2008 16:56

Jeez Andy!! what are you doing to me!..lol
I did for a while susoect that Susannah had married an Elliott......but why would she call her children, clealry fathered by Francis Storry..call them Elliott??
She called herself Ellott (Elliott) when she married my gg grandfather William Gilchrist in 1849....having had five Storry children.....
I have several Birth ans marriage certificates and the name Ellett/Elliott/Ellott seems inextricably linked with the name Storry.Storey/Story.
Now you hit me with a BOTTERILL!!
this is geting good!!, and doing my head in!

Many thanks..keep it coming!!

The BVRI records are, I think now on Ancestry but you need the new Premium Membership to view them if you are a new member. I could see them with the ordinary membership up until my renewal in November.

They take some finding! Click on search, click on Birth, Marriage and Death and then scroll down to England and Wales Christening Records 1530 - 1906 and England and Wales Marriages 1538 - 1940.

I have seen BVRI on sale on ebay, Derek, but a word of warning! There are 2 editions, first and second. Don't buy the first edition, it's much smaller. They don't always tell you which edition they're selling but you can tell from the picture. The first edition is a square box, the size of 1 cd. The second is rectangular, the size of 2 cd's. Second edition has a map of British Isles in lower right corner.

Hi Margaret.now you're complicating things!! lol
..having said that Joseph could have re-married this Mary Smith.....I don't think i want to go there.
I would give my eye teeth for those BVRI records...name your price!! lol
When I first started my investigation of my family tree yonks ago....I got the impression that Joseph Robinson was a farmer..then i changed to Publican!!
Francis Storry was a salt merchant..and I'm pretty sure his elusive father was too.......and for a very short while Susannah was also a salt merchant..obviously inherited his business..A really cute cookie was my Susannah!!

Thaks margaret

There's this marriage of a Joseph & Mary in Burgh upon Bain but it's 3 years after Susannah was born. Besides you don't want a Smith in your tree, do you?

ROBINSON, Joseph Marriage
Wife: Mary SMITH
Marriage Date: 19 Feb 1816 Recorded in: Burgh-upon-Bain, Lincolnshire, England

Hi Derek,
You wouldn't believe how many times I'm asked about BVRI! I should have a prepared answer that I just have to cut & paste.
BVRI is British Vital records Index, a set of 16 cd's that I purchased many years ago from LDS Church. I don't believe they're for sale anymore. The records are extracted from parish records in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales and contain 10.4 million births & christenings and 1.9 million marriages from 1530-1906.
Sounds wonderful, doesn't it? But I've never found one of my family on them!

Please educate me about BVRI..I've been on here a long time helping other people, but have always ignored BVRI

Thanks again

Hi potty..I think that they married 1849.....and you're right about the names......I think benjamin was conceived before Francis died...and is definitley a Storry........but since William took on all the children of Susannah and Francis and since he had several kids of his own..perhaps thyey kept the storry name for Sarah Ann..but she is definitely a Gilchrist!!! as I am!! lol
Well spotted though........

I am wondering why, if William and Susannah were married in 1847, two children born after that date (Benjamin b1848 and Sarah Ann b1850)have the surname Storry. Are they on the census as children of Susannah?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 4 Dec 2008 13:29

BVRI is extracted from parish records but they're not original copies, they are transcribed.

Derek

Derek Report 4 Dec 2008 13:19

Hi Margaret.thank you...I'm trying hard not to "best guess".....His death cert 1847....saya he was 45....how accurate is that likely to be???
....and how accurate is BVRI.....pity its not the christening date thats 1806..becasue there was often a ling gap between birth and Christening...

Thanks Derek
