Is it really coming out for public viewing next yr? I had heard a few months ago that it would; but there hasn't been any fuss about it, I would have expected people to make more of a big deal about it, and for it to be in the genealogy magazines.

Oh. My. Lord. I didnt know, I buy genealogy mags (although not all of them all the time), and still hadn't realised. Why will the last column be blanked, and what is usually on the last column? Thanks Jim/Thelma.

I have just searched for some family members and found them but you have to pay to see the census pages. Not sure how much it costs to see each census page - anyone have any idea. Regards Irene

Jim/Nicky, is anyone able to view the images after paying for credits, or is it just people who FMP sent an invitation to?

Ive typed so many families in the search facility and it comes up as 'No records' for each one. I can accept I might not be able to find a few families but Ive tried 15 different people/families/couples now!

Do you have to be a 'member' of Find My Past to be able to look up people. I went onto the site out of curiosity and tried to click Search and nothing happened. Is this because I do not have a subscription to Find My Past? ........ and when the 1911 comes out officially in January, is it the sole province of FMP ? Thanks.

can someone please tell me if the 1911 census covers scotland or do we have to wait for scotlands people to do their own scottish 1911 census, cheers jean

Margaret Report 23 Dec 2008 19:16

Thank you Jennifer - I've done that and registered, but I still get nothing when I click the search button, so maybe as I do not have a Find My Past subscription I am not allowed to search. Thanks anyway.

I've signed up from the link that has been posted and it works fine. Bit expensive for all the lookups I'd like to do, but the ones I've paid for have proved a goldmine of info.

At last Herefordshire is appearing but although I know they will be there I can't find any of them!

Am I being daft or has anyone found someone there?

Kind regards
Amanda

ChristinaS Report 23 Dec 2008 20:51

I've only managed to find 3 of the 8 families I'm looking for in London. I know they must have been there. The trouble is, the site makes no allowance for misspellings. My grandmother's name was Harriet Smith, but as my grandad had spelt her name as Harriett (2 TTs) it didn't show up. Har* produces nothing. I assume some of the missing families must have been mistranscribed, but there's no way to find them except by name! Very frustrating, and VERY expensive.

Amanda & Christina, I have the same problem. I have found one family in Cornwall (I havent bought credits but can still see the names, theyre unusual so I know they're mine), but for many other families in other counties I've tried, there is no result. :-(

Nickydownsouth Report 23 Dec 2008 22:01

I managed to find a few, by just searching on surname and county of birth........if its a common name you can then reduce the amount by adding birth year and +/-...... i was actually quite impressed with the speed of it all {Ancestry take note}.......

BTW Romany star... i`m not a paid up member of findmypast, but still managed to purchase the credits and view what I wanted.
