Evie,
Linda is going to mail them to me, that should be fine, it appears she's not that far away and I will have a hard copy record. Time for beddy-byes here, so catch you later.

I think it's not that Harris's email is too full, it's that too many Ancestry images have been sent directly from the Ancestry site to Harris. Or I thought. I saved and sent an image to Harris's email address from my own email, and it worked fine as far as I can tell.

I may be the confused one, but try that -- Save from Ancestry (not Share), then email directly from you to Harris.

Tried that first, remember evie!! It's harris' email is too full that's the problem, (tongue poking out)!! Ancestry is now in slow mo mood so shall try something else in the am. Cheers Linda

Linda, what are you up to?

When you're looking at the image, the Save button is by the Share button.

Click it, and select "Save to my computer".

Pick a handy place to save it. Call it something simple (like Kilgour1).

Then go to your email, click to attach a file, and find the file and select it, and send!

I've got a Jones and a Morris in my wifes side of the family, nearly as bad as Smith.

Linda Report 8 Jan 2009 08:36

I'm trying, I'm trying!! Decided to try sending it to myself from ancestry and then forwarding, but it wanted me to become a member (duh??!!) so now, I have them both printed out, and scanned onto my comp, but they take so long to download the bally thing switches off, I cooked and ate dinner and it still wasn't done, SO just give in man/woman pm me your postal address and I'll send you the hard copies. I live in tas so at no point am I going to turn up onto your doorstep!! Cheers Linda :)

PS got a cert today for what should have been my gt gt grandmother, wrong one, hardly surprising given her name is emily smith!!!

Thanks Evie,
I’ll have to work on Joseph, the only Joseph’s I know of are in a completely separate branch of the Kilgour’s, but I suppose this could always be a first one. He may be a relative of this family?? I think someone needs a kick up the #@1#> for listing that 1841 census under Rilgom, it plainly says Kilgour on the census. I was hoping Linda could send me the 3 Oct 1848 passenger list on the ship Marmion for George, John and Mary (or Martha) for New York.....(dropping hints now) Anyway, I better go and eat, before I fade away, may catch on another hunt. Thanks for everything

Just gonna answer your last PM here, about Joseph Kilgour.

No marriage shows for him 1841-1851 at FreeBMD, and I don't see him in the 1851 or 1861 either. Unless he's all mistranscribed, but it would be unusual if that happened 3 censuses in a row.

Now you can go hunting for him in the US censuses!

EvieBeavie Report 8 Jan 2009 07:21

Oh, duh. *I* can save things to my computer! I just did, and sent you the image directly.

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 8 Jan 2009 07:13

Oh -- they ask you to register as a member.

You can do that just by signing up for a free account. It happens to me occasionally when I'm using .com instead of .co.uk - I don't pay for US records - and after about 5 searches it makes me sign in with the free account I registered there, then just continues along. So that might work.

I still recommend Gmail. The other thing about it is that it has ginormous storage capacity (and never ever deletes anything), and for getting things like big images, you can just keep them there and not have to store them on your computer.

-- except that wouldn't work with the Ancestry emails, because we're just sending you access, not the image itself.

Harris -- just go to

http://www.gmail.com

and get yourself a few spare accounts. I have a couple of dozen. When you have, just PM me a new address.

Gmail is wonderful. You'll never regret it if you start using it. One great feature is that it creates threads just like this from emails, which is very handy for genealogy babble. And you can post the address anywhere (like in postems at freebmd) without having to worry about exposing your "real" email address (or name, or location). And I have one called

[me][email protected]
for getting bumph from this place, and one called
[me][email protected]
for getting bumph from Ancestry

and so on.

I think it would mean you, because I've only ever sent about 5, and that one to you in December was the only one in months and months. And the system did tell me the image had been sent. Oh, and just to test it out, I sent myself one right after, and I got it. So it's definitely you. ;)

If you have a different email account, Ancestry won't know it's you.

Thanks for all your assistance Evie, I can’t open your last Ancestry as it says “You’ve reached the maximum number of viewable images”. I presume that means me. I can still use what you have listed on Genes Reunited, so thank you again, I now have to absorb the information and add it into the tree.

Harris Report 8 Jan 2009 06:54

Thanks for all your assistance Linda, (I didn’t notice I wrote “bother”....SORRY.) You may go home now. I’ll catch you another time...I’m sure.

Linda

Linda Report 8 Jan 2009 06:50

Poop, thats happened to me before. The details aren't really any different to the copies I sent you, but again, if you want me to post them, just email me your address and I'll send them on. Cheers Linda

Linda

Linda Report 8 Jan 2009 06:44

OK have just sent the slave schedule for 1860 harris, so hopefully they'll both arrive Ok. It doesn't give a ward, only a district, so perhaps someone else can explain that. I have to go home now, fun as it's been. Shall check in again tomorrow. Bye y'all!! Linda :)

Received the Passenger list for David Kilgour, Thanks Linda.
I’m now having trouble absorbing all this information, it’s coming in so quick.

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 8 Jan 2009 06:37

You're most welcome. Do send me your email address so I can send you the image.

I looked at FreeBMD for a marriage or death for Mary Kilgour in Lancashire up to 1861, but this is the only thing I found.

Deaths Jun 1846
Kilgour Mary Hamilton West Derby 20 823

The index didn't give age at death until the mid-1860s, and it's hit and miss whether the death cert would state age or parents' names.

There are four marriages elsewhere up to 1858. Two are Mary Ann, which wouldn't likely be her, since that was pretty much a different name.

The other two are probably accounted for by two widowed Mary Kilgours in Northumberland in 1951.
