Catherine, it's a bit early here, and perhaps I'm not reading this thread correctly, nor the passenger list, but the immigration record I see show Cecilia's birthplace as Scotland. (So, is this "your" Cecilia.)
Place of Birth
Elizabeth: Greenock, Scotland
Cecilia: Little Thurrock, Scotland

Also, the ship sailed on 3rd November, 1928. So, if they weren't counting exact days, she could have been born in May.

If Cecilia got married and had an uncommon surname, you might be able to find out more information about her in America. Do you know where she is buried? The cemetery office may be able to give you more information.

Sorry to hear about your job. I hope everything works out soon for you.

If you know where the family are likely to have been living before they sailed, you might find a baptism for Cecilia. This might just possibly list her birthdate.
Some parents would think it wise to have a child baptised before such a journey.

I'm sure it was June she was born. I have the ship passenger listing of when she sailed to New York. She was 5 months old, so I worked it back to June. Cant afford to get her birth cert just now though, lost my job yesterday.

Unless you know that she was definitely born in June, her birth registration indicates that she was REGISTERED in that quarter, ie. April, May or June.
She could have been born anytime within those months or indeed up to 42 days before the beginning of April, bringing it back to possibly February or March.

Yes Cecilia is dead, she died in New York, I have found her on the US Social Security death index, it doesnt give her DOB though.

Is Cecilia dead? The death indexes will give her DOB if it isn't too early.

www.freebmd.org.uk carries almost all England and Wales bmds from the start of registration on July 1 1837 to, currently about 1925 or 1930

The entries are being transcribed by volunteers, and they are working very hard to get the entries finished up until 1983, when entries were first put on the web. As a result, freebmd is continaully being updated.

it is free, and the one place that we all look to begin with

BUT the only information you will find is :-
name of child,
quarter of registration,
year of registration, and
place of registration.

You have to buy the actual certificate to find out any more .......... there is nowhere on the web where you will find this, except possibly on bmdshare.com ...... and then only if someone has happened to have the certificate that you want and has entered the information on there.

There are some free sites like http://www.bmdshare.com/pages/searchbirth.php but they only have a few certs at present. It most likely means another £7.
