Squeaky020 Report 23 Jan 2009 20:33

Hunslet is sort of Leeds, Yorkshire area I believe.

I think you are right about the Henry business, I will send for the one that you gave me the details for in 1925 as soon as I have the funds available xx

Again many thanks for spending so much of your time on this !

Speak tomorrow.

Also cannot find Henry or his father George Edgar Davison in the 1901 census.

Cannot find a marriage for George either.

Squeaky020 Report 23 Jan 2009 18:48

That's another problem, I cannot find his birth either, that has been a real pain too !

According to census he was born around 1892.

I know from Henry's marriage cert in 1913 that his father was George Edgar Davison and he was deceased.

I found George Edgar Davison in census and it said he was born in Hunslet but as for Henry cannot find anything!

I have tried Googling it but not with much luck.

My father can sort of remember (though states that it's may not be 100% correct) that Joyce & a sister & a brother were brought up in a children's home from quite a young age.

That could possibly be Flossie & Cyril as the closest 2 to her.

Joyce was meant to have returned to the children's home to find details about her parents but although the home was pleased to see her , they would not give her any details.

I wonder if that's true??

I wish I had someone to ask all these questions too !!!

Eek!

Squeaky020 Report 23 Jan 2009 16:58

Yes that could very well be the case....

I will try that death cert and see if it's him, I have no record of him having a middle name though, all I really know is his occupation which was his army days in the Lancaster Regiment.

I wonder if i can find any more info from that and I wonder where to find that sort of info?

With thanks.

My grandmother Joyce was born 1928, so if you have found the right Henry's death in 1925 in Salford , then it's poss that Henry may not have been her father.

Henry was named on Ruby's birth cert in 1915, I have not got Helena or Hubert's birth cert yet, I do have Joan's, Cyril's, Flossie's and Joyce's and Father's name has been left blank.

Squeaky020 Report 23 Jan 2009 16:28

There was a child born 1921 - Joan .R. Davison registered in Salford.
Then in 1924 there was another child born Cyril Claude Davison registered back in Dover, Kent.

Here is the list - it's easier ! :

Births Mar 1915 (99%)
Davison Ruby Hoare Dover 2a 2057

Births Jun 1916 (>99%)
Davison Helena Hoare Dover 2a 2156

Births Sep 1917 (>99%)
Davison Hubert H Hoare Salford 8d 45

Births Mar 1921 (>99%)
Davison Joan R Hoare Salford 8d 55

Births Jun 1924 (>99%)
Davison Cyril C Hoare Dover 2a 1853

Births Dec 1926 (>99%)
Davison Flossie Hoare Dover 2a 1698

Births Jun 1928 (>99%)
Davison Joyce Hoare Dover 2a 1848

So the question is : is it possable that Henry stayed in Salford and Ellen returned to Dover and had the last 3 children by someone else? But just continued the family name???

Ooooh my brain ticking even more .....

Squeaky020 Report 23 Jan 2009 16:16

Oh My Goodness !!!

If that is him ..... that means the child Ellen had in 1928 (which is my grandmother!!) wasn't full sister to the rest of the children.

I wonder if she did remarry? Now there's a thought ....

Thanks for your help regarding this!

Hello Flo,

Again many thanks for your help.

I will probably at some point have a shot at ordering that cert for Ellen, though I will have to wait maybe as £7 is a risk that I can't afford at the moment !

Thanks for your trawling !

Squeaky020 Report 22 Jan 2009 20:57

I just found something else - I had a look at the National Roll of the great war and found the following :

Davison, H., C.S.M., 4th K.O. (R.Lancaster Regt.)
He volunteered at the outbreak of the war, and in March 1915 was drafted to the Dardanelles, where he took part in the First Landing, and the first and second battles of Krithin. He was wounded at Sulva Bay, but afterwards served at the Evacuation of the Peninsula, and returned home in January 1916. He was then retained on important duties at his depot, and did valuable work until June 1919 when he was demobilised. He holds the 1914-15 star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
2 Sarah Street, Salford.

So he worked until 1919, I should think this is the right H.Davison, judging by his rank and regiment, also Ellen & Henry had a daughter in 1921 and she was registered in Salford - which matches up with the address given above.

Hello again,

Just an update on Henry Davison,

I looked at his WWI medal roll card it states the theatre of war he 1st served in was the Asiatic and his date of entry therein - 27 Sep 1915.

So that is the latest date I have for him.

Squeaky020 Report 22 Jan 2009 20:26

I really appreciate your help Flo,

Henry is named on one of his other daughter's birth certs , the birth was registered by him on 7th January 1915 & his occupation was Company Sergeant Major, Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment 6th Battalion.

Unfortunately he isn't named on the marriage cert the box has just been left blank.

I hope this info helps.

Anything else I can help with please let me know, I appreciate your time.

Hi Flo,

Sorry yes, the last known of Ellen Davison is April 1928 when she registered her daughters birth in Dover, Kent.

The last known of Henry Davison is 1915 from his WWI medal roll card.

Henry is not named on his children's birth cert's so cannot follow him through that way.

After then I have no trace.....
