Not having much luck. The online Scottish marriage records only go up to 1933 so that's no good. Have you had any luck with the electoral roll records that I sent you?

Here are some other suggestions

Salvation Army http://www2.salvationarmy.org.uk/familytracing
Dr Barnardos http://www.barnardos.org.uk/fosteringandadoption/fosteringandadoption_resources/fosteringandadoption_making_connections/fosteringandadoption_making_connections-whatwedo.htm

if she was legally adopted then try the GRO adoption contact register
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/adoptions/adoptioncontactregister/Birth_relative_making_contact_with_an_adopted_person.asp

Go through all your family records with a fine tooth comb, look for letters/address books/diaries that may give you some clue, friends in the Stepney area??? According to the passenger list of Leonard his address was 3 Harlow Place Stepney E1 and was a lorry driver.

I assume that Leonard left a will, so take another look at that and maybe contact the solicitor who drew it up and see if there was anything in it or even outside the will that showed he had made provision for Yvonne perhaps paying maintenance to who ever looked after her.

As there doesn't seem to be any marriage records for her apart from a possibility in 1991 , this would make her 51 when she married (not impossible)

Name: Yvonne Orr
Spouse Surname: Fletcher
Date of Registration: May 1991
Registration district: Tameside
Registration county (inferred): Greater Manchester
Volume Number: 39
Page Number: 1139

Hi Sheila
Sorry i only just saw your thread
On estella death certificate she was down as
Estella Irene Bloomfield
she died dec 1950
Husband Frederick James Bloomfield
Carol would have been born approx 1945 - 1950

I am not sure if Carol is from this marriage or a previous to someone Martin?
She definately had a son in 1944 to this guy ??? Martin called Stephen brian Martin

No Charlotte did not die from TB
She was pregnant with her 6th child when she died - both did not make it

That is what i cannot understand - why was she left behind?
My grandfather took everything he knew to his grave! He Knew
the children wanted to find yvonne again, the older ones vaguely remember her.
My mother had been searching for years prior to me taking over for her.
She is still helping etc

Just a thought

SADLY did Charlotte in 1947 die of TB ?

wonder if it was possible that Yvonne failed her medical to get entry into NZ

Do not worry
It was curable in those days if you took the medication, good diet & sunshine/bed rest etc.

Just can not think why she should be left behind as she was not a baby !

ALSO have you checked the SCOTTISH marriages ?

Justine

Justine Report 13 Feb 2009 08:29

yes - not for marriages in South africa tho

FAIRTHORN

FAIRTHORN Report 13 Feb 2009 08:19

NORTHERN IRELAND but still UK

When you say you have looked for a marriage
have you looked every year ........4 indexes to a year
from approx 1956 ?

Hi Fairthorn
Yes that is correct - Leonard is my grandfather and Yvonnes father
He went to Auckland to look for work while the children
Anthony, Patricia, Dorothy and Dawn (my mother) went to Wellington
and stayed with family or an orphanage.
