On the departures records, your can check yourself by checking www.prov.vic.gov.au

Then click on heading Public Records Office of Victoria, then Immigration Records and family history, go down to Outward Passengers to Interstate, U.K. and other Ports, click then add Surname and a list of names will appear.

To get a copy of Albert's birth certificate

www.bdm.vic.gov.au

Click on Search historical, then Historical index, then put in surname with registration no (which is at the bottom of birth records that I previously sent)

It costs 99cents to view, then you can download an image direct to your computor for approx $A20.00 (could be less, I haven't downloaded any for a while)

If you have any problems, you can send me your email address & I will go through it with you separately.

I believe that Henry returned with the children & returned to Australia at a later date, I do not think that children at that age would be allow to travel by themselves.

Hi Mel thanks for that but i think it was only the children who came to england according to what i was told edmund, john and albert ( my grandad )were sent back to england after thier mother died and thier father remarried and the new wife didn't want the children john died in 1879 aged about 7 my grandad was 2 when his mum died. I have only recently found this info out it's taken me ages but with what you have given me i am hoping to send for some certs you wouldn't know how i would do that by any chance

I hope i'm doing this right last year i got help from you guys with trying to find my grandad you gave me loads of info on him but still couln't find a record of his birth I recently found out that he was born in australia and i was hoping that maybe once again someone could help to find his birth his name is Albert James Schacht born in 1873 in Victoria Australia fathers name Hinrich he also had two brothers Edward Henry b 1870 and John Francis b 1871 I would like to be able to get a copy of his birth cert but don't know how to go about it any help would be great
