Kind of need Timothy's and Mary's details to go looking in 1891.

1881:

Name: Uriah Bailey
Age: 1
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1880
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Timothy
Mother's Name: Mary
Where born: Ashbourne, Derbyshire, England

Yet another place of birth.

I wonder whether this is a reason for the confusion:

Street address: Residance A Waggon
Civil Parish: Cheddleton
County/Island: Staffordshire

Do we have travellers here?

Name: Timothy Bailey
Age: 33
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1848
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Mary
Where born: MacClesfield, Cheshire, England
Occupation: Chair Bottomer (Cane Wk)

Name: Mary Bailey
Age: 30
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1851
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: Timothy
Where born: Chester

Haha. I'm like spam. No shame.

So who could blame him if he didn't want to be Uriah in the new century, eh? Reminds me of the Hurene family, supposedly from Canada, we worked on a while back. I determined that they were from Lancashire, and their name was originally Urine. Well, who wouldn't? ;)

The 1911 and 1901 certainly do look alike. And Uriah has a son Peter.

Peter/Uriah have two different places of birth, though.

1911: Cauldon, Staffs
1901: Burbage, Derbyshire - misreported by parents-in-law?

Do you know what registration district the two places were in?

Okay, doing the 1901 census trick, looking for John living in ___ --

Cauldon is in Cheadle.
Burbage is in Chapel En Le Frith.
There is also a Burbage in Leicestershire, in Hinckley reg dist.

Hard to know where to look for censuses / births!

Oh no, I'm stuck on another one!!!
I've got my 9 year old grandaughter coming tomorrow to do her family tree on her Dad's side (she really wants to learn how to do it!!) so I thought I'd have a sneaky look now so that she's not too disappointed tomorrow if/when we get stuck!!

We know for certain that her Great Grandfather was Ernest Bailey born 1908 in Buxton, Derbyshire and were told his parents were Peter & Annie Bailey (not bought birth cert to confirm but his son told us).

1911 census:
URIAH Bailey 29 Born Cauldon, Staffs
Annie Bailey 35 Born Ashbourne, Staffs
Laura Bailey 13 Born Buxton, Derbyshire
Annie Bailey 11 Born Fairfield, Buxton
Peter Bailey 10 "
Albert Bailey 8 "
Jack Bailey 6 "
*Ernest Bailey 2 "
May Bailey 9 mths "

1901 Census:
John Gerrard 50 Born Cheadle, Staffs
Harriett " 52 Cauldon, Staffs
Thomas 19 Harpen Hill, Derbyshire
Ernest 13 "
Harriett 8 "
PETER Bailey 20 Son in Law Born Burbage, Derbyshire
Annie Bailey 24 Daughter Harpen Hill
Laura Bailey 3 Fairfield, Buxton
Annie Bailey 1 Fairfield, Buxton

I'd say that these were the same family wouldn't you? Maybe Uriah didn't like his name so called himself Peter?

On 1911 census Uriah gives his age as 29 but also says been married 15 years!!! I've checked marriages & Uriah Bailey married Annie Gerrard in Chapel le Frith March Q 1899 - thats 12 years!! Eldest daughter Laura was 13, I found her birth - Laura Bailey Gerrard born Chapel le Frith Dec Q 1898.

I have Annie Gerrard age 14 living with her father John Gerrard & his wife Harriett and her son Alfred Bennett age 18 in the 1891 census but cannot find them in 1881 census. Could someone have a look for me please to see if you can find them?

Also, I have Uriah Bailey age 1 in 1881 census with his parents Timothy & Mary Bailey but I cannot find them in 1891!!!! Would somebody mind having a look for that one as well please?

I haven't even tried earlier census!!!

Thank you all very much, Sue
