Oh, drat, I thought it was a marriage.

Yes, that's the problem with these long threads.

I posted that one on page 1. -- sorry, page 2.

... that's the problem with these long threads ...

That's how I calculated that Collins married Drawbridge in 1903. ;)

...and being completely picky,

I entered the surname Richardson and the year and the quarter and found the spouse of the other lady mistranscribed.

Marriages Sep 1918
Richardson Frederick A Gardiner Lewisham 1d 2334

I shall add a postem online to this.

Jill -- because it says.

Post-1911, it gives the other spouse's surname with the individual's entry in the index.

I copied the FreeBMD entry but put the matching spouse's surname in parentheses, to clarify the jumble of words for the benefit of newbies maybe not used to deciphering the lingo. It's right there in the GRO entry, though.

The GRO specifies that Shanly married Drawbridge, and vice versa.

Dear Mrs Grumpy,
Hi,this is on freebmd,

Marriages Sep 1918 (>99%)
Drawbridge Annie E M Shanly Lewisham 1d 2364
Shanly Edward M Drawbridge Lewisham 1d 2364

The Shanly to Drawbridge marriage,

Best wishes...Sam

Mrs Grumpy

The BMD tells you he married a lady by the name of Drawbridge...

Marriages Sep 1918
Drawbridge Annie E M Shanly Lewisham 1d 2364
Gardiner Alice Richardson Lewisham 1d 2364
Shanly Edward M Drawbridge Lewisham 1d 2364

After 1911 it includes the surname of the spouse!

So Alice Gardner married a Richardson!

This is starting to get silly lol.... and i agree very entertaining!

But the marriage in 1918 - to Shanly - only lists one man and two women so how can you draw the conclusion that Annie married Mr Shanly? Annie could have married the other - so far un-named - man.

Thanks rootgatherer, you probably meant the 1911 census for the one who died age 76,the one born 1878/9 may still be a live still in 1911.I searched the 1911 and found who i think is Annie E M Drawbridge in Dartford but no Henry so this could be the one who married Edward Shanly in Lewisham.

As of yet i have not found a 2nd marriage for a Annie E M Cottingham,

Thankyou for your help again.....Sam

EvieBeavie Report 19 Mar 2009 12:16

Annie Collins Drawbridge in 1911:

DRAWBRIDGE ANNIE 1879 32 Dartford Kent
DRAWBRIDGE CLARICE 1910 1 Dartford Kent
DRAWBRIDGE LILY 1905 6 Dartford Kent
DRAWBRIDGE QUEENIE 1907 4 Dartford Kent
DRAWBRIDGE STANLEY 1903 8 Dartford Kent

Henry Drawbridge seems to have popped his clogs by then, the GRO notwithstanding.

So she was free, fair and 21 in 1918, and available to marry.

Unless he'd just gone off somewhere for the night ...

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 19 Mar 2009 12:10

The point, you see, was that there could have been another Annie E M Drawbridge available to marry Edward Shanly. If Annie E M Collins's husband had died before 1918.

It just really isn't conceivable that Annie E M (Drawbridge) Cottingham married again as Drawbridge.

At some point, you do actually have to buy certificates.

Fortunately, Australian indexes on line give more info than the England/Wales GRO.

I have solved your Irene Maud Cottingham death question.

Hi EavieBeavie,
Thats it go and confuse it all now Ha Ha, there is a death of a Henry Drawbridge age 76 in 1903 or 1904,and a birth of a Annie Elizabeth M Collins in Battle 1878,so this could be her also?????

I WILL get there one day,
Thanks for your help.....Sam

Just for giggles.

"there does not seem to be another Annie E M Drawbridge about, well not on Free bmd"

Marriages Jun 1900
Card George Tunbridge 2a 1437
? Collins Annie Elizabeth M Tunbridge 2a 1437
? Drawbridge Henry Tunbridge 2a 1437
RIVETT Mary Matilda Tunbridge 2a 1437

One Drawbridge-Annie EM marriage. And one Collins-Drawbridge marriage.

And one Collins-Drawbridge birth post-1910:

Births Sep 1911
Drawbridge Edward G Collins Dartford 2a 1287

There's one possible Annie E M Drawbridge in 1918.

Dang. Another 30 seconds of my boring life down the drain.
