This conundrum just gets to me. Do you have any more info on James Cooper, boarder in 1911?

Aha! Possibly her father.

Thank you for your help I will keep trying to solve the Mystery of the 1901 Census with the change of wives name and the change of birth place for husband or missing family in census. John

Perhaps her Mum called herself Victoria because she found plain old Mary Ann boring.

Obviously her Mum is Mary Ann Cooper because of the cert.

I do not now know what is right the refrences for Henry/harry in Birmingham look ok. but can anyone help with 1901 census. where is Mary and Henry/ Harry and who are Harry and Victoria? I am still confused, Nans Victoria's birth cert does say her her Mum was Mary Ann Down (nee Cooper) but she told all of the family that she was named after her Mum (Victoria). Will have to keep seaching and getting More certs. Still if anyone has any Ideas I need Help. John

Trying to find my Maternal Ancesters. In 1891 Census;

Did they marry I can find no record. acording to 1911 census they had been married 22years is this true.

Henry Down 21 Born in Bermingham
Marry Ann Down 20 London Bermandsey wife
Living at 7 Arthur Terrace Union Terrace West Ham Leyyton

{(The nearest in 1901:
Harry Down 29 Devon
Victoria 26 London Bermandsey wife
Ada 8 Leyton Essex
Victoria 5 leyton Essex
Eva 1 London Bermandsey
Living at 19 Comus Place Southwark.)}

Then in1911;

Harry Down 40 Birmingham
Mary Ann 40 London wife
Ada 18 Leyton
Victoria 15 Leyton
Eva 10 London
Lenard 5 London
Perry Fredrick 2 London
Plus James Cooper Boarder.
At 12 Comus Place Southwark.

The children are born right place at simaler dates, but Harry is born in the wrong place; and the wife has a differant name and is different age but born in same place.
The daughter Victoria is my Grand Mother; Her Birth Cert. says Her Mother is Mary Ann (Nee) Cooper! This is Mothers Maiden name on Birth Cert.

My Mother was born at 19 Comus Place.

I cannot find Mary Ann in 1901 or Victoria in in 1891 or 1911. Is it the some Family with Mistakes or 2 Families that co-incided.
Update: 19-4-2009. I know now that 1901 census is not my family but where are Mary Ann and Henry/Harry in 1901; and when and where did they marry.
