ChristineinPortugal Report 6 Apr 2009 08:43

I have found his parents in 1901, he wasn't with them.

You really need the birth cert of William A to be sure you're tracing the correct family.

Was Annie born 1898 listed as his sister in 1911?

I think I have found the marriage but again the birth cert would give William A mother's maiden name.

Hi Sylvia,

Pleased it seems to tie in.

Where were William G and his wife born?

I will try to find them in earlier years.

Christine

Sylvia

Sylvia Report 5 Apr 2009 08:30

according to the cenus william george was a nursery gardener so this ties into all the info i already had, so there is a strong possiblity that william a is my grandfather

If you search on Free BMD for the birth as I did.

Click on Edmonton and you will then see the areas the district covers.

Does the census say how long William G has been married and what was his occupation?

I think the best thing to do is to buy the birth cert and then you will know the MMN and if the birthdate is correct.

i've just gone to the 1911 cenus and according to the info you have given me i found him but according to the cenus william a was born in chestnut, but the family were living in edmonton, so is it possible that william a was re regestred in edmonton

ChristineinPortugal

ChristineinPortugal Report 4 Apr 2009 18:53

You have to buy credits to look at the transcription or image to find more details.

It's quite possible the occupation could be different to what is recorded in 1940 on the marriage cert as 30 years is a long time.

if this is the right william then i've been looking for him in the wrong place, i've been looking for him in london, but then that totally messed up my family tree, but yes he did die in jan 1970 at hammersmith hospital, so his death would of been recorded at hammersmith registry office, on the 1911 cenus does it tell you what william g's occupation is, cos if he is the right person then william g should be a gardener

ChristineinPortugal

ChristineinPortugal Report 4 Apr 2009 18:17

Did he die in 1970?

There is a registration Jan/Feb/Mar/ qtr 1970 in Hammersmith 5b 1886.

This one gives a birth date of 28th Oct 1910 and is William Andrew Gregory.

If that is him then this is a possible birth reg

none of the winesses were gregory i don't have his death cert, but my dad says he's going to try and get a copy as he only lives a short distance from where he died, if you want i can tell you where he died if that will help, but other than that i cant tell you anything else cos i was a baby when he died

ChristineinPortugal

ChristineinPortugal Report 4 Apr 2009 15:24

You need to find the birth registration for William Andrew.

Does the marriage cert give any more clues?

Were either of the witnesses named Gregory?

Will have another search around later.

His death registration may also give a better clue as to his age.

i got george from the 1901 cenus i then traced him in the 1911 cenus, but after i realised he had changed his job, i then noticed that he had a wife and child, so then i thought that possibly george's younger sister might of been the natural mother and george broght up the child as his own, but after a lot of response i realised that i was barking up the wrong tree, so i went to the 1891 cenus i found that george had an older sister but she was not at home in 1901, so then i thought that she could be the natrual mother, but again after a lot of response i realised i was still barking up the wrong tree, so now i'm stuck, i had thought possibly that my william may of been an illigitamate child of george and when his william died he went and found his other william and brought him back, but i cant prove this so any help will be greatly recieved

How have you got back to the family in Melksham if you don't have a birth cert for Willaim Andrew?

There are quite a few William A Gregory's born 1910-1911 which would fit in with his age on marriage cert.

Do you know when he died?

When did William Andrew marry and how old was he?

Christine

Sylvia

Sylvia Report 3 Apr 2009 19:46

according to william andrew's marriage cert his father was a gardener, now i clocked george gregory (market)gadener in 1901 and he was living with his parents, and in 1911 he has a wife and child but not my grandfather, now i have shaken lots of trees but nothing it's like he doesn't exist, but i have photos, so i've been wondering if possibly he was registered under his middle name then christened wiliam andrew later. i also cant find wiliam andrew in the 1911 cenus, so i was wondering if he was born after the cenus was done
