Hi jackie, maybe you can be the one that will help solve a mystery for me. I have been looking for the birth record for my gtgtgrandfather William James Gilbert, all i have is the 1881 and 1891 census in norwich, norfolk that states he was born in kingston upon thames in 1844.. He died in 1895 aged 51 in norwich.

The puzzle is when i have searched around the years 1842 -1846 i dont find a birth for kingston but find other william gilbert;s in the surrounding surrey townships. He never married my gtgtgran Maria Rebecca Elder born 1859 in berks, so i dont know how to trace him. Many people have tried for me on here but with not a lot of success. Hope you can be a saviour. thank you

thank you jackie will try and tie that 1 in see if its with william with regard to census and birth records. how simpler it would have been if he had married maria, but that indicates he could already be married/.thank you :-)

hi jackie again i do need with it again please can you tell me how would i
a) locate apprenticeship records for brickmakers(for william Gilbert above man)
b) locate records for mariners -George Elder born roughly 1750-1760 (no record of george's parents guessing on the birth years from when he got married, he could be older) born in london, died by 1806, married to Mary Cullen in 1785 in bermondsey.
Iknow that this could be a long shot but stuck going further back with these 2,
George is William's wife Maria's gtgrandfather. Thank you.

Hi Tracey,

You could possibly find records you require from The National Archives website.

I'm afraid I cannot help with George Elder and his birth
