hi sylvia we have kids births we just cant find the marriges

john alfred forrest born 1909

married 1st wife
dorothy surname unknown about 1928

2nd wife jessie kirkup born 1917 married some time after 1944 as there children carry her surname so we think at that time john wasnt divorced hence kids having mothers maiden name

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 Apr 2009 21:17

But the birth certificate should say the mother's maiden name on it

that could help to find the marriage ....... especially if there has been a mistranscription on either freebmd or ancestry.

or

they didn't marry at all!

If you have your dad's birth certificate, what does it say under mmn?

Ricochet

I did see those, and mmn was Kirkup

....... but those are the children of the second partnership.

I thought they were trying to find DOROTHYs surname, the mother of Dave's father, older brother to those two Kirkup children

Ricochet

Ricochet Report 30 Apr 2009 21:56

I understood George to be Dave's father............Jessie is the grandmother

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 Apr 2009 21:57

pehaps he didn't marry Dorothy either

if you don't have your dad's birth certificate, it may be because he is listed under Dorothy's name

which is why I'm trying to get from you your dad's name to see if we can find his birth registration!

Sylva

Dave's father is Jessie's son..................

Read the posting about buying gran's death cert.................

Ricochet

Ricochet Report 30 Apr 2009 22:27

Dave/Michelle

If you buy the cert of the marriage to Jessie, it should say whether he was a widower.....or a divorced man.

SylviaInCanada Report 30 Apr 2009 22:31

Ricochet

what does this mean then

no its forrest as its my mygranfather but my father knows very little of his STEP GRAN or his dads 1st wife just her name was dorothy

I read that as meaning that "dad" was the child of the first wife, and Jessie was his step grandmother

I think I'm confuddled!

sylvia

I read that as meaning that Jessie was his step grandmother

Michelle Report 30 Apr 2009 22:36

sorry other half dave wrote that he didnt know weather 1st wife was the mother as he could find the kids birth but now i know that his gran is his real gran and his dads mother is jessie kirkup dave isnt very good at this tree thing and gets confused easy

we now know that jessie didnt marry john till after kids were born which now possible means that he left 1st wife for his dads mum and probably wasnt divorced thats why marrige didnt take place till later time
