I have the marriage certificate for my great-grandfather John Parkinson Green and from that I know that he was born in Charlestown, Lancashire c1847, but I can't find any documentary evidence, so I can't trace the tree any further back.

On the marriage certificate, his father is named as John Wright Parkinson, occupation Gentleman.

Clearly, JP Green was born out of wedlock and took his father's surname as his middle name and kept his mother's surname.

An engineer by trade, he married Mary Woolhouse on 20/01/1878 in Lancaster, St Paul Paddington. They appear on the 1881 census living in Pendleton.

They had four children, Edith 1878, Bertha 1881, Harold 1884 and Albert Le Gendre 1899.

Can anyone help or suggest how to find his birth details, please?
