Forgive my stupidity.

Rose, please do click on Rosie's name and send her a message, and I'm sure we all hope very much that you are able to contact her.

Rose -- it's been two years since this thread was posted so it isn't fresh in my mind -- but is there something here to connect your Lees with the Lees in this thread?

If not, you need to start a thread of your own -- it's easy, just click now on Help Clinic in the upper left and read the instructions and tips, and then click on Trying to Find and then on the Add Topic button in the upper left.

Put a name, date and place in the subject line, and Lee in the surname line. And then just copy what you have put here into the message.

If you do think your Lees are connected with Rosie's, you would have a better chance of reaching her if you click on her name and send a private message. If she has a current email address at this site she will get a notice. No notice is sent of replies in threads.

Good luck!

Oh - and never both subscribe to Ancestry and buy credits here at GR!

The credits are a waste of money if you have Ancestry - and generally a waste of money anyway, in terms of value for money, as compared to Ancestry.

Rosie, you do need to read carefully.

Grace was Elsie's mother's surname.

Elsie seems to have been born before her parents' marriage (assuming that her mother's husband was her father), and possibly registered twice -- as Elsie Grace and as Elsie Lovelock.

Only the two birth certificates (I gave the registration info) would say for sure.

So Grace, in that case, would not have been Elsie's middle name, properly speaking, it would have been her surname, along with Lovelock, which she used as a middle name. But this would also explain why one of her children, at least, was registered as having mother's surname Grace.

hi - its getting more interesting. Grace was Elsies middle name.I cant remember how I decided on Elsies birth details - I live most of the year in south africa so only pick up on my searches when I come back to the uk for 3 mths each year - but I must renew my ancestry and buy gru credits asap
Fred was in the army in ww1- he got blown up and he had a metal plate inserted in his head leaving him with terrible moods.May says that he was always away and he worked in woolwich,London. She said he was a charge hand !?
I'll have another look at everything tomorrow -
I'm also hitting the sack now - cant see anymore - to be continued !

thanks guys

And that Frederick matches with the one I was looking at in 1901 -- not London, as Rosie thought, but a good match for the 1911 one.

Name: Frederick Lee
Age: 14
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1887
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Henry
Mother's Name: Annie
Gender: Male
Where born: Coates, Wiltshire, England

Civil Parish: All Cannings

Henry Lee 39 - cattleman
Annie Lee 43
Frederick Lee 14 - ordinary farm labour
Arthur Lee 13
Henry J Lee 10
Matilda M Lee 7
Florence Lee 5

Births Sep 1886
Lee Frederick William Devizes 5a 93

Aha, military makes sense. The wife & kids would be living separately.

If I were Rosie I'd buy credits to look at both of those records and get further details, especially about Frederick (place of birth, e.g.).

Julie

Julie Report 24 May 2009 23:03

Heres a couple of possibles for Frederick, that i if he's about the same age as Elsie

HOUSEHOLD.....LEE FRANK M 1888 23 Farnham Surrey

Or this on if he was in the Military
MILITARY LEE FREDERICK 1887 24 Farnham Surrey

JaneyCanuck Report 24 May 2009 22:57

I also think the Mary Grace Broom death makes sense. Her birth may have been registered some weeks late, or there could have been confusion about the actual birthdate when she died.

Julie's theory that the Lee family were travellers would also match with a late registration, and possibly no registration at all. Many Lee families were travellers, particularly from the Kent area. There have been various threads here at GR in the last several months about some of them.

I do wonder whether Frederick and Elsie were not together long and some of the children were not truly his -- or maybe in 1911 he was just off travelling! (Ordinarily, the family would have travelled together.)

Rosie -- it just doesn't help to tell us you found Elsie Grace's birth details, unless you show them to us!

Julie

Julie Report 24 May 2009 22:53

Look who is also in Farnham

LEE AGNES ALICE ANNIE F 1910 1 Farnham Surrey

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 24 May 2009 22:52

And living with her - take a bow, Julie --

LEE AGNES ALICE ANNIE 1910 1 Farnham Surrey

but no Frederick.

I wonder how many of the Lee children were / were not his ...

Rosie

Rosie Report 24 May 2009 22:52

Thank you for this info. I found Elsie Grace's birth details on Ancestry last year- I00% sure its correct from what mum and grt aunt marj have told us.
It looks like the info you have given me about Mary could be right - I'm quite excited as it's the first lead on her i've had.
Mary's middle name makes sense as it's also her mothers middle name and her birth date given as 2 years before Mays is spot on.
will keep in touch

thanks

Rosie

Rosie, you need that 1909 marriage certificate to get ages and fathers' names -- to find Frederick in 1901 and 1911 -- to see whether Alice is with them.
