Hi Tracey

I can see what you are saying I rightly or wrongly thought maybe she was too upset to register the death, Annie was only 18 years old when she died.

I have just downloaded a form and I am going to see if there is a will for Eva's mother, Annie, not so bad its only £5. I have to pay £18 for docs from India.

Thanks Angela

Hey Angela,

Another question.... where does the india link come in?

Could Eva have gone back there?

Hello Tracey

India is where my father, grandfather and numerous others were born.
The link is on Leonard's side (her husband)

Eva's father did work and spent a lot of time in Africa but I haven't been able to find anything in that direction and also she did put 'Simpson' as the middle name of her daughter which was her mothers 2nd marriage

I don't know how much contact there was with her father George Haydon Bennet.

Thanks Angela

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 26 Jul 2009 14:29

Well she obviously felt some link to him to add the Haydon name to her own upon her marriage, a name not included on her birth record?

I do wonder if she stayed eternally single, if she had a disasterous marriage she may have decided not to bother again.

There is also the stigma of being a divorcee, while in todays society it's commonplace, back then again it was an enormous stigma to deal with....

Yes I see what you mean.

I hope there is a will for Annie and if so went to Eva then I will know if she had stayed as Whelan by 1928.

I will come back to you and let you know when I have any further news.

Thank you for everything today

I have now just completed a search for a death of an Eva Whelan from 1932 to 1942 and there is nothing there, something gives me the impression she may have died before her daughter?

In 1932 she'd have been 51? maybe something happened to her?

Tracey
That has never ever crossed my mind, I had always been led to believe that she was still alive when my father got married in 1936.

I grew up in a childrens home so know very little about my fathers family.

All I had at the beginning was my father was born in Calcutta so my tree of 298 names is not bad me thinks. Although I have to say that a very good person who my grandfather bigamously married her grandmother has helped me enormously.

I am now going to have to go off and have a think about what you have said.

Thank you Angela

OK,

No death for Eva from 1922 thru to 1942....

I would suggest if she died early her son would have registered the death under the name Whelan, as he would have known her.... I cannot find a death of any Eva (except a 1 yr old!)

So she either died after 1942 or she remarried... i shall hunt forwards and see what i can find.

It's all about going from what you know to be certain (thats she was alive in 1916 when she divorced Leonard) and then trying to disprove theories (that she may have been alive at your father wedding in 1936, or that she remarried)...

Hopefully we will find the truth!

Regards

Thank you, its good to have a pair of eyes that not only know what they are doing but don't get hung up on all the family names that you stumble across and then go off on a different path.

Hello Tracey

I cannot believe it, I started looking for her 5 years ago when I started my tree.

I have just phoned my younger brother who was in the home with me.

Do you realise it means that she was still alive when we were born, me in 1952 and him in 1955.

I have to tell you I have just sat here blubbing my eyes out.

I really, really don't know how to thank you enough.

I am going to order the cert and see whats on it.

thank you, thank you Angela

It's my absolute pleasure.... this is what we are all here for, finding answers!

I seem to be very good at finding everyone else's and unable to find my own rellies...

...it's very strange how families go, maybe the shame of the divorce made her reclusive, there are many many stories of the shame this kinda of thing involved. She probably just couldn't cope?

I'm really pleased you have some more answers, sorry if thats upset you in some way.... but now you are a little closer to finding out why and how....

....the intreguing thing will be who recorded her death??...maybe there are more secrets to be found?

I thought a thank you for everybodys help would be nice.

After all the work that was put in to find my nan's death I found where she was buried, on going to the cemetery not only was she there but altogether 5 members of the family.

With the help of Genes I have found so much more than I was looking for.

Keep up the good work

Hey Angela.

What a lovely end to the whole saga.

It does pay to be patient.... it seems weird that only a year ago we had to trawl the pages to find answers, today that would be a 5 minute job!
