But i thought the brother was the informant on the death?

How can you be sure she was still there then. if she was living there also surely she'd be the informant?

Hi Tracey

Tie to that address daughter died there in 1932.

Annie did outlive her husband by a year. The property they lived in 8 Upper Montague in Mayfair was up for auction in 1928.

My grandfather was a bigamist amongst other things so good reasons for divorce.

Amazing isn't it you can go back into the 1800's and find people but try finding one after 1932.

Thank you Angela

Did Annie survive her husband or did he survive her?

If he survived her all her goods who automatically go to him, and it'll be the husbands will you'll need (just a thought)

Another thing, you have her last known place as being in 1932, what do you have to tie her to that date and place?

You could try and get the electoral roll for the address, if you haven't already, and see whom else is living there....

I know the frustrations, i have my partners GGrandmother who disappears and we cannot find her anywhere....

Hello Tracey

I have just had a new thought her mother Annie Joanna Simpson died in Kensington in 1927 and as far as I know Eva was an only child so I am going to have a go at finding a will and see if mentions Eva in it and gives a surname.

Have you thought about ordering the divorce docs?

It might give some reasons as to why she divorced Leonard, esp as that was not the done thing back then....

Thanks Tracey so far with Eva have tried
Whelan

Well we know she existed but blow me what she did after the divorce with Leonard.

Thanks for all your work today

I would suggest thats a newly meshed name, the mothers maiden name is Harrison, and i would wager they are unamrried and including both their names in their childs name....

Just a fluke...!!

Hi Tracey on cert its her father who registered the birth.
I think it was the done thing sometimes to try and up your surname by hyphenating it.

On a separate note I have found a birth for a Joanne with the surname Harrison-Whelan born 1993 Birmingham area so the surname does exist now. Have tried looking at phone numbers for that area but with no luck.

My father Colin born 1908 in India under Whelan
His brother Ian born 1910 in India under Whelan
His sister Annie born 1914 in London on cert under father Harrison-Whelan
her death registered under Whelan.
Thank you for still trying

Angela

What surname did she use to register the children?

Angela Report 26 Jul 2009 11:10

That would have been a brilliant thought but
at my dads wedding she was not a witness, his brother Ian Montague Whelan I don't think ever married and the sister died young in 1932 and the person who registered the death was the brother Ian.
Thanks for all your ideas.

Have you got any marriage certs of her children? It's possible she could have been a witness and therefore you'll see her new name?

Hi Haydon is from her father who was George Haydon Bennet, strange 2 listings for the marriage, I have not seen Haydon used anywhere else.
Her mother divorced George and remarried a John Pollock Simpson.
I don't know if Eva remarried or not maybe she did but using which name I do not know.
Thank you Angela

Eva was my grandmother born in London in 1881, I know her parents, her marriage to Leonard Harrison Whelan and her children.
The missing part of the jigsaw is where did Eva go/die, previously been searching under Whelan now I think maybe she used the hyphenated surname.
She divorced Leonard in 1917.
I have tried all the usual searches but no luck so far.
Last know address in 1932
8 St. Mary's Road, Kensington, London.
Any ideas please. Thank you
