Dennis....the only thing I can suggest is to get Archie's marriage cert and see if a father's name is given. Also have a look at witness names for further clues

I'm wondering if that marriage I found with the missing groom was our Emma. Then that husband died and she married again to Mr Struther. Obviously she would have married under her first married name. Either that or Mr Struther is a figment of her imagination to cover for that fact that Archie was illegitimate

this could be the missing groom, page number possibly mistranscribed as very different from all the other page no.s in that quarter in Hartismere

EDIT definitely 649 on Ancestry, so he is your missing groom for that marriage

Many thanks for the 1851 census - looks like we have the two spellings Keeble and Keable to contend with - John Keeble was b1830 so may have moved out by 1851 census - so would appear in 1841 census hopefully with same parents as Emma below - very sorry it would mean another lookup, this is also taking us away from who she married and when.

Archie did marry Ellen Moore and the person I'm currently in touch with regarding this part of the family has photo of Archie Struthers so any possible confusion is prior to his birth.

My information is that Emma remarried around 1898

Parents of Emma and John Keeble were Samuel c1801 and Susan so 1851 census should pick up Emma to confirm her link to John.
