Yes Ginny - the 1891 1nd 1901 census are Paul's parents and siblings. (Albert's grandparents)

Paul then had Albert in 1905.

Paul Garnet Breitenfeld 1883 Jan-Feb-Mar London, Middlesex

On 1891 he was using his middle name - I wonder if he still used that when he travelled to Canada?

There is a 1924 Ontario marr of Albert Thomas Breitenfeld b 1905, but I don't have an Ancestry sub.
View Record Sylvia Redbowrne year date Albert Thomas Breitenfeld location
[presumably Redbourne]

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~onvsr/
only has one marr, so Albert not transcribed yet:

020806-22 (Waterloo Co) Frederick William BREITENFELD, 33, shoemaker, London England, 28 Scott St. St. Thomas, s/o Albert BREITENFELD (b. England) & Fannie SMITH married Violet Agnes ROWE, 32, shoe fitter, Bedfordshire England, Galt, spinster, d/o John W. ROWE (b. England) & Mary SCOTT, witn: Frances E. ROWE & Nelson W. WEST both of Galt, 7 June 1922 in Galt.
[Abt 30 y ago, Galt and some neighbouring villages were joined and renamed Cambridge]

Nearby Kitchener (Berlin until WW1) was a centre of the Canadian German Mennonite community.

I didn't find these guys on the 1911 census. One way to search this census is to start at Ancestry, where I can look for Albert s/o Paul to see how Breitenfeldt might be transcribed, then check (different transcription, I think) at:
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/index.html
If I'd gotten a hit, at the top of the transcribed page I'ld see something like:
1911 Census of Canada
Home / 1911 / Ontario / Waterloo South / 14 Galt / page 1 split view
I'ld click on "split view" to see the original. I've never been able to satisfactorarily save any of AG's images, so next I'ld go to:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/index-e.html
and drill down to find the URL for a 1911 geographic search:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1911/index-e.html
and thence I'ld save the image - but, like I said, I found nowt.

Thanks Ginny
These are the same records I found, he came back on thre Mauretania in 1946, as I have these records from Ancestry, but its the departure that is puzzling me as he had to get over there somehow and it must have been by boat

Margery

Margery Report 25 Aug 2009 19:16

His mother was Violet Elizabeth Maud she is on 1911 census living with Albert and William (Sons) and WIlliam Lever, my granddad, she married William Lever in 1918, there were other children by my granddad but they had the surname of Breitenfeldt, so I assume that she was still married to Paul up to that time, even though i have no knowledge of any divorce records, its all a mystery

Dea

Dea Report 25 Aug 2009 19:09

Have you found his mother on 1911?

Was she Violet Elizabeth M or Clara??

Margery Report 25 Aug 2009 18:36

I am new to this.
I have found records of one of my relatives returning from Canada in 1946, but can't find any records of him leaving the country which I believe he did as a young child with his father. Can someone tell me where I am going wrong or should i be looking in records other than immigration/emigration.
Any help or advice will be appreciated
