Eileen Report 21 Sep 2009 16:10

I have been away from this thread for a while having noted the number of additions and thought that nothing new had come in. That's another lesson I've learned - check threads even if number is the same - some might have been deleted.
So -Thank you to Janey and good wishes for your eyes. Thanks to rootgatherer and to Ann of GG.
I hope the 1891 people are mine.

all good wishes for the eye surgery in the morning Janey - hope all goes well and that you are not out of commission for too long - we need you on these boards!!!!

By the way, I deleted all my "Donlt duplicate/triplicate" postings - got way too unpleasant!!

Sincere apologies Eileen. When I saw this posting this evening, I went back to check my inbox and sure enough there was your email. I vaguely recall reading it with the intention of returning to it later when I had a bit more time but alas I obviously had a senior moment which has lasted longer than most!!

It looks like there has been much work done on here by other helpers and I am pleased about that.

It was not my intention to ignore your request as normally I answer emails as quickly as possible but I had intended to have a more indepth look at your request.

My apologies once again.

Mrs Rootie.

Well ... it still wasn't "Landashipping". ;) Reminded me of driiving in the US, and "Land o' Lakes" and whatnot! And of course Land o' Silly-o.

I sleep occasionally. Remember I'm on Canuckistanian eastern daylight time at the moment -- 5 hours behind the snoring Brits.

The 1891 couple is definitely yours, Eileen, isn't it?

If the 1851 Hester should be yours, it means she isn't to be found in a census with a parent, very unfortunately. I wonder whether any connection between Margaret James, the head of that household, and Hughes-s could be found ...

Probably not by me. I go for eye surgery in the morning and will be out of commission for a few days, and have got to get some work done before then!

Thanks., Ann of G.G.
Pembs is the place where Robert Seagrey and Esther Hughes got married. The marriage cert doesn't give a town - just St Andrews Chapel. Just noticed that he was living at a hut encampment probably army.
I will check military records? but they wouldn't give parents names would they?

Name: Esther Seagrey
Age: 49
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1842
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: Robert
Where born: Landashipping

Civil parish: Holy Trinity

Landashipping is a nonsense made up by the enumerator who didn't understand, I think?

Could it have been something like Llandisilio, which is in Narberth district?

Robeston Wathen is in Narberth reg dist.

JaneyCanuck Report 14 Sep 2009 21:43

A John Hughes born 1782 and married 1801 would be a little long in the tooth to have a daughter born c1843!

Esther has birthplace Haverfordwest in 1881. I don't know the geography; does this match up? Hester & Esther were often treated as interchangeable.

1851

Name: Hester Hughes
Age: 9

Sarah James 25

Eileen Report 14 Sep 2009 20:50

Hi again,

I'd like to follow the trail of John Hughes b.1782 given by Ann of Green Gables. He looks a likely one. My J H. was dead by 1873 when his daughter Esther b.1843 married Robert Seagrey.b.1837.

I've tried looking on the Mormon site for these but can't find a connection between John and Esther Hughes.
Are there more places I can look?

Thanks again, Eileen

From the one who did the least, on behalf of all: you're welcome. ;)

The absolutely easiest way to print this is to go to FILE in the upper left of your screen, click, then select PRINT and print. You'll get a couple of pages of bumph you can print something else on the back of later.

I'm amazed at what you've all found out. It will take a while to take it all in and sort it all out. What a feast of information. Thank you so much. Now I need to print out this somehow!!!! Eileen

I agree, but can't find her elsewhere at the moment.

It's interesting that Robert is the only Segery with the Bicketts in 1841. Is he illegitimate or just being minded?

Ozi.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 9 Sep 2009 23:21

What was his occupation on the marriage cert?

Just wondering if pensioner on 1881 census refers to Army pensioner - really clutching at straws with that suggestion

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 9 Sep 2009 23:20

Here's an interesting one.

1861:
Elizabeth Segery abt 1809 Egham, Surrey, England Head Clerkenwell, Middlesex - unmarried and a laundress

It looks as if it was commonly spelled this way.

Ozi.
