These are the only 2 Mary I Amer's born 1911.
It was established earlier that yours was likely to be the Bethnal Green one. I did not have the 1911 census when we first looked. I think you will find this is your one I have also added the baptim Of the older brother.

Our Mary's parents were James Henry Amer and Margaret Donaghy.

OK, having spent the mornng talking this over with my parents, it now seems that the family was more complicated than we originally thought.

My dad was lead to believe that Mary I Amer was his Aunt and the information you have kindly passed on says otherwise. I am now off to order her birth certificate.

We will now be looking into why she was "passed off" as my grandfathers sister!

There was always something strange about my dads family - and we just have to keep digging!

Does he recognise any of the names?

I'm afraid he doesn't recognise any of them. He always referred to Mary as "aunt" and to realise that she may be a relative in the family somehow and not an aunt is quite shocking!

OK sometimes when we hit upon something surprising like this it is better to re establish the basics. Which one is your grandfather?

My grandfather is James Claire Amer born 1917. We always thought Mary was his elder sister, but it seems we were wrong!!

Wow! It looks very likely as the mothers name is right - again we thought she was older than my grandad!

They did marry but much later.

Hi, sorry yes we worked out that he did eventually marry Margaret and if we're right, Catherine Eccles died in1930 so he was free to marry ( we therefore assumed he didn't divorce Catherine reason unknown!)

Funny how information from families can be so wrong. My GF told my dad loads of stuff and so far none of it has rung true - maybe he didn't like his family history and so made it up?
