According to various census's from c1800 to c1900 all the 'Lara' men in the family were undertakers. They all came from and lived in east london mainly stepney area. Although it looks like a family business being handed down, I don't know the name of the business or exactly where it was, and it's driving me crazy!!!
The 1st one i can find listed as an undertaker is Phineas Lara c1798, then Joseph Lara c1826 & Daniel Lara c1827, then Phineas Lara c1849 any help would be appreciated

Hi,

Hope you won't mind me saying this but 'historical directories' is a very useful site, BUT, if you have not used it before - 29 minutes will not be enough time to explore.

The site is quite slow but, as I said before, very useful.

It takes quite a time to find your way around it and the images come up slowly - give it another go and I am sure you will come up with something useful

Hi Christie,

Just had a quick look on 'Historical Directories' site and the 1882 Post Office - Part 2 -
Commercial + Professional Directory gave me a Lara, Jane Caroline (Mrs) - Undertaker. - note said "See Liquorish + Lara".

I searched through again and found "Liquorish + Lara" , Undertakers at 466 Kingsland Road. E.

I then looked for them on 1881 census and came up with this:

RG number: RG11 Piece: 292 Folio: 109 Page: 26

Reg. District: Hackney Sub District: West Hackney
Parish: Hackney Enum. District:
Ecclesiastical District: City/Municipal Borough:

Address: 466, Kingsland Rd, Hackney County: Middlesex

Name Relation Sex Age Birth
Year Occupation, Where Born

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LARA, Jane C Head F 53 1828 Undertaker Huntingdon
Huntingdonshire
LIQUORISH, Frederick T Son M 34 1847 Undertaker Kingsland
Middlesex
LIQUORISH, Caroline E Daughter F 34 1847 Holborn
Middlesex
LIQUORISH, Florence E Grand Daughter F 2 1879 Kingsland
Middlesex

..................

Haven't time to look further but if I have the correct one, you now have the name and location of the 'family business'

Perhaps you already have some of these names to prove the connection?

Dea, what can i say your brilliant!!!!!
As i said in my pm im really confused as to who's who now and will have to start again as i have the right people but obviously not with the right partners. I may well need further help with who actually married who as some of the males seem to have had a few wives.
