Has anyone any information in their tree as regards to a David Mccarthy who married Elizabeth Barton, they lived on Pike Street in Barry Wales around 1906.

I want to know how many children were born to them and if they ever came to London between 1907 and 1929. I know there was a Mary Winifred but were there any more children.

If you search the 1911 census for Elizabeth Maria Barton living in Barry, you will find her:

Then, search for anyone with surname McCarthy living in Barry with Elizabeth Maria McCarthy, and you will see David and their children, and apparently also David's parents.

You haven't had luck with the 1911 for some reason I don't understand.

But I'll give you the search results.

Now, the marriage record doesn't say David *Joseph* McCarthy, but it does say Elizabeth Maria, and they are the only ones in Barry, so I figured that was them.

The dates of birth are approx and may be a year late, of course, e.g. 1908 could be 1907.

So either she's not your Mary, or your Mary's parents weren't David and Elizabeth. Or - she is your Mary and she's visiting an aunt and uncle?

There is another possibility:

doing the search for Mary McCarthy *born in* Barry:

and that's consistent with a 1906 birthdate.


So I shall go round up Viv to use her 1911 subscription and see who is in that Honiton household.

I have been back on 1911 and and found a mary winifred mccarthy in lewisham 5yrs old but no other members of household i am really rubbish at this, could this be my Mary it makes sense here being in london. She may have not been with her parents in Barry at the time of the census record.

That's the household she got for you.

There was no Win* Mary McCarthy born c1906 in Cardiff reg dist.

Your Mary was born in *late* 1906 so she hadn't had her birthday yet on census night, so she would appear as aged 4, which is then calculated by the site as born 1907, but it's really 1906 as she was going to be 5 in 1911.

The grandparents are Bartons.

So I think it's pretty definite that this is your Mary visiting her maternal grandparents in Devon in 1911.

Read it over and have a think!

If you follow Mary Winifed/Winnifred Marys mother back on census I bet it ends up that they are her parents.
