Nudge for Sandiwes

You're wanting us to say "you're welcome!", Blossom? ;)

You're welcome, Sandie! I hope it has made sense now.

About the one you found in Lewisham -- of course there were many people by the same name, for most names. The one you found was probably this one:

Births Dec 1905
McCarthy Winifred Mary Wandsworth 1d 700

a completely different person!

You searched for Mary Winifred, but the system doesn't care what order the names are in. This is the one you found:

MCCARTHY WINIFRED MARY 1906 5 Lewisham London

Then you have to do a *separate* search for any McCarthy, born anytime, living with a Winifred Mary McCarthy in Lewisham -- these are the results:

MCCARTHY ELLEN BEATRICE 1870 41 Lewisham London
MCCARTHY JAMES DANIEL 1870 41 Lewisham London
MCCARTHY ELLEN FLORENCE 1899 12 Lewisham London
MCCARTHY BESSIE MARY 1901 10 Lewisham London
MCCARTHY RICHARD JAMES BERNARD 1909 2 Lewisham London

--- *not* your people!

Hi Janey me again, i posted earlier saying i am in touch with someone who has mary winifred 1906 in there tree but as to her being in london in 1929 is doubtful as this mary married in 1926 to a Gee then married again in 1928 to a Jones. I rechecked Workhouse Registers again and found that she is down as mary mccarthy not mary winifred Mccarthy. As i said before on dads birth certificate she is mary winifred Mccarthy, confused i think so. The mary Mccarthy i found was born 1906 in St Marylebone London but not Mary Winifred Mccarthy who was born in wales.

YOUR McCarthy 1906 ,be it winifred mary or mary winifred is the one on the 1911 census that I posted
She was born in Barry Glamorganshire and staying with her maternal grandparents in Honiton Devon.
Which Janey proved by tracking her mother back.

That is my say on the matter.

I am sorry i must be really annoying, what i am trying to say is this. The mary winifred Mccarthy born in wales was not in london 1929, and she was married to someone 1928 and had 2 children in wales. I won't bother you anymore with this thanks anyway for all your help.

Well, I'm left clueless.

This is the very first thing you said:

"Has anyone any information in their tree as regards to a David Mccarthy who married Elizabeth Barton, they lived on Pike Street in Barry Wales around 1906."

Those are the people you're looking for.

Those are the people Viv and I have been talking about.

We found them in the 1911. We found Elizabeth Barton with her parents in 1891. We found their daughter with Elizabeth Barton's parents (in Devon) in 1911.

I just cannot for the life of me figure out what the problem is!

Why are you interested in a Mary McCarthy living in Lewisham in 1911??

You said you were looking for information about the family of David McCarthy and Elizabeth Barton in Wales.

I don't know what this is about being in London in 1929. Who was in London in 1929?

Is a Mary McCarthy who was in London in 1929 the Mary McCarthy you are *really* interested in, and all this searching about McCarthys in Wales was just a big giant chase after a wild red herring??

You have a Mary Winifred McCarthy as the mother on your father's birth certificate. And that's the sum total of what you have?

Well, whatever you do, don't delete this thread. It has the complete history of *some* Mary Winifred McCarthy in it, and it may be valuable to *someone* some day ...

I have been looking for Mary Winifred Mccarthy as stated on my dads birth certificate which you kindly helped me with, i took the information that was given to me and found someone who had this information in their tree.
I was informed by them that their Mary Winifred as far as they are aware she was not in London she married in 1926 to a Gee and then married again 1928 to a Jones had 2 children in wales. My dad as i have stated was born in a london workhouse 1929.
I came back to genes to let you know that the mary winifred information is not my Mary.
And i said that i rechecked the workhouse records and she gave her name as mary mccarthy 1906 but my dads certificate says mary winifred mccarthy.
Thats why i said i was now confused, is the mary i'm looking for the one on his birth certificate which leads to the one in wales, ot the mary on the workhouse records.

Okay, well, the thing is, you asked about a particular family. (If you read the boards a little first, you will see that someone with a person or family in their tree never happens by and replies to a thread. Not. Ever. Replies are always from other members offering to help.) So we went merrily off researching the ancestry of people who are completle unrelated to you. And you just never did make it clear who you were interested in. (Sorry, but this is the very first mention of your dad's birth in the workhouse etc.)

As a result, none of this made any sense to us. The family you asked about was the one in Wales. We assumed that was the family you were interested in.

Anyhow. Off the top of my head, I can think of one reason you aren't finding your Mary's birth or childhood (or marriage) in England/Wales.

How about: she wasn't born in England/Wales?

Sounds like a very possibly Irish name to me.

If she were Irish, it's also entirely possible that she returned there after giving her child up for adoption (I'm assuming that's what happened, since you really just aren't saying).

1929 - just before the start of the Great Depression? Going home to her family, wherever they were, might have been her only option.

Sandra, the rule of this site is: one post per topic. All you are doing is confusing the issue and taking up people's time for no purpose.
