I never thought of that!

Would her second marriage give her fathers details?

I know she went on to marry an Albert Worsdale in Wigan in 1889. Albert I think was born in Wiltshire circa 1850. I haven't any more details than that.

still can't find anything on Joshua. Have you found Elizabeth in any other census. Presumably her 2nd marriage certificate would give her father's name

Thanks Lancashireann,

Thats interesting, firstly I didn't know William Edward (my great grandfather) had the Clark middle name, it isn't on his birth certificate; secondly we don't know where Clark comes from, usually it it from the mothers maiden name but in this case it was also Evans and lastly, I wonder if Joshua, whom I am most interested in, may have been known as 'Clark-Evans'.

It is only a thought, but thanks again,

Russ

Hi,

I don't know if anyone can help me any further, but I have just had a call from the Swansea registry office and the marriage between Joshua Evans and Elizabeth Evans does not match up.

Without the correct marriage certificate I don't think I will be able to get any further forward.

Any help or ideas will be gratefully accepted.

Thank you for all your replies,

I have my great grandfathers birth certificate (William Edward Evans) and it has my great great grandmother as 'Elizabeth Clark Evans formally Evans' I am assuming the Clark in her case was wrong since he is also called Joshua Clark Evans on the document.

My problem has been the I cannot trace any marriages between the two in Welshpool and therefore couldn't request the marriage certificate.
Swansea seemed a long way from Welshpool.

If this is the correct marriage, then the cert should have fathers name/occupation to help a census serach

If you're not sure of Elizabeth's surname then you need the cert of one of the children to verify it.

The route to follow for the best chance of success would be to obtain the marriage cert - it will include his father's details (if known)

On 1881, the two younger children were born Ince

This cert will give MMN

Their marriage cert would give you his father's name and occupation.

Also, was Elizabeth also an Evans?

Russell Report 13 Dec 2009 11:32

Hi,
I am trying to find any information on the descendents of Joshua Evans. Joshua was my great great Grandfather and the census has him being born in Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, Wales circa 1852 and killed in a railway accident on 5th October 1887. Death was registered on 11th November 1887 while employed as a Forman Railway Shunter for the London and North Western Railway.
Joshua married Elizabeth Evans (again born in Welshpool according to the census) probably around 1874 and had children Elizabeth (1874), Joseph (1877), William (my great grandfather 1878 to 1939), James (1882 to 1930), Charles (1884 to 1957), and Thomas (1887). Elizabeth went on to marry Albert Worsdale in Wigan in 1889.
Unfortunately there is no record of his birth in Welshpool at around this time and that is where my search has ended, I would like to trace his father, mother, brothers and sisters.
Many thanks in advance,
Russ
