I've lost Eliza and Austin Ambrose after the 1911 census and have no date for their deaths.

If anybody could lend a hand, it would be very much appreciated.

-Mike.

We need more info from you on this

When was each of them born?

Where were they in 1911?

Freewheel

Freewheel Report 27 Dec 2009 21:28

These are the only two who were alive pre-1911

Austin was born 1856 in Damerham, Wiltshire. Eliza was born 1861. Austin's father was George Ambrose born 1781 and his mother Ann born the same year.

They were both in the 1911 census but dissapeared from records afterwards in Salisbury.

What about the death I posted which was registered in Salisbury? The age matches.........

Ambrose9494

Ambrose9494 Report 27 Dec 2009 21:39

It's the only possible date that would make any sense at all.

Thanks for that. But what of Eliza Ann Ambrose (nee Colbourne)?

Ambrose9494

Ambrose9494 Report 27 Dec 2009 21:40

Just checked and you were correct Freewheel, top notch. Thanks.

Patience, Mike...........you've only just told us her year of birth,................and the records have to be looked at one at a time!

Ambrose9494

Ambrose9494 Report 27 Dec 2009 21:41

I know, I know. *jumps up and down excitedly*

But a reply that quickly is phenominal!

Freewheel Report 27 Dec 2009 21:49

Based purely on age at death.................this is the only one I can see

Frankly, it seems unlikely, both from location point of view, and the fact that no second name is lsted.

Name: Eliza Ambrose
Death Registration Month/Year: 1934
Age at death (estimated): 73

Are there any Eliza Ambrose's around 1860 at all in Salisbury? Might be listed as Elizabeth.

Freewheel

Freewheel Report 27 Dec 2009 21:56

No, sorry............tried that already

Only one Elizabeth death in Wilts - 1965, aged 69.

No Eliza in Witls.

Ambrose9494 Report 27 Dec 2009 22:10

So have you checked all records 1911 - 1961? I've combed through 1911 - 1931 and have found a few Eliza's, none of which died in the Fordingbridge area.

Ivy Report 27 Dec 2009 23:31

I wonder if we can assume that Austin died first, and Eliza then went to stay with relatives? If so, you could restrict the search on Ancestry to say 1953 +/- 10 years.

Since she was born around 1861 you could take the last two digits of year of each possible death registration (12 separate registrations for Eliza Ambr*s* before considering other misspellings etc), add on 40 and take away 2 (if you need to be that exact) - this quickly eliminates for instance "died 1951aged 75" - would expect nearer 90 years old). That really leaves just one in Willesden in 1949, age 87. Were there any relatives near there?

None at all, but intriguing strategy. Thank you, Ivy.

To answer your question, Mike, I have Ancestry - and looked at every death for Eliza Ambrose apart from those which could not have been 'your' Eliza, due to YOB or second name/initial.

I didn't, however, have time to look for mistranscriptions - other calls on my time - so here is the one to which Ivy referred

Name: Eliza A Ambros
Death Registration Month/Year: 1949
Age at death (estimated): 87
Registration district: Willesden
Inferred County: Middlesex
Volume: 5f

I presume you are certain that she remained married to Austin and didn't have a change of surname?

Buy the death cert for Austin and see if the informant is Eliza Ann.

Something dosn`t add up here Mike.....

you posted on the last page.....

"Austin was born 1856 in Damerham, Wiltshire. Eliza was born 1861. Austin's father was George Ambrose born 1781 and his mother Ann born the same year"........... ?????????

So Ann gave birth age 75.........?????

Ah, darn. My mistake.

George and Ann are Grandparents. Charles and Mary Ann are the parents.

Charles born 1821 and Mary Ann (nee Gauge) in 1823.

Sorry for the mix up. (Would've been a world record if that had been true though. :D)

I'm also fairly sure she didn't remarry. I mean no offence to anybody, but the likelihood of getting married at 70 - 80 is pretty unlikely.

She could've moved in with her son, Sidney, though I'm not sure where he lived in the 1940's. I know he lived in Atworth until his death 1970 but I'm not sure when he moved there.
