I have had a look at the online National Archives catalogue but I don't see a divorce for William and Mary but that wasn't that uncommon at that time. They may just have gone their own ways. Also if Mary Lizzie's death was registered in the name Way, she was probably never married to Albert Howell.

Do you have your Grandmother's birth certificate? Is it possible that Marian Kate Way, aged 26 years on that 1891 census is her mother? I am wondering if the father's name on her marriage certificate is actually that of her Grandfather - given to save face?
