Oops, it was Glitter Baby had unrelated Carters. ;)

But maybe thee and me do have after all! I mean, how many Carters could there be in Northamptonshire ... hahahaha!

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 15 Feb 2010 01:15

Janey, I ain't got no Carters in my family, not unless you go back to 1792 in Sandbach, Cheshire. Heck, tell a lie, I've got one in Northamptonshire! Will pm you.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 15 Feb 2010 01:08

With a birthdate in mid-Sept I also would not rule out a fourth quarter registration of the birth, whatever year it was.

So that throws this one into the mix possibly:

Births Dec 1891
Carter Joseph Stanford Hackney 1b 513

and the good thing about that one, if it happened to be right, would be that Stanford could possibly be the father's surname if the parents' weren't married.

Madmeg, are our Carters related? ;)

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 15 Feb 2010 01:08

I knew you'd beat me to it Janey - but yours wasn't up here when I posted mine!

Many fostered children were relatives, but I can't see anything that connects these Keatleys. No Carters in there.

Oh ****, it's another ****** Jessie Tedstone. He says the birth date is 19th September, and 1892. (Ignore if you don't know what I'm talking about - another problem on another thread).

Simon, if you think that's his birthdate, how about these (from Ancestry):

Not sure why you think the Poplar one is more likely, but I think Ancestry came up with some that freebmd didn't (?).

He was 9 in 1901 and 19 in 1911, so late 1891 fits.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 15 Feb 2010 01:02

Where do you have the birthdate from -- family birthdays and such?

I tend to agree -- order what seems to be the most likely birth cert and see.

I've found that people are more likely to know their birthday, i.e. month and day, or to know their elderly relations' birthdays, and get the year wrong, than the other way around. My grandfather was born in 1901 but believed he was born in 1900 until he had to get his birth cert when he retired -- knew when his birthday was, though. ;)

Also, he may well have been the child of unmarried parents, so a birth cert with no father named could be a good lead too.

Also just for our ref here (you have all this but we don't) - this is his death I guess:

Name: Joseph Carter
Birth Date: 19 Sep 1890
Death Registration Month/Year: 1975

No, Simon, much as I hope for cousins, no hope here I fear.

My Carters were from Northamptonshire, Wellingborough area, and my Coopers from Nottinghamshire, Basford area. Both families long rooted and all present and accounted for! And actually I was a generation out: it was the grandson of Ms. Carter and the granddaughter of Ms. Cooper (Carter and Cooper were both born in the 1860s) who married here in Canada. ;)

Madmeg -- I posted that marriage on p. 1. ;)

Not Sure how to find out why he was in Meriden, I wouldn`t think he was related as he was a foster child. I have found out all births of Joseph Carters in London, and the all deaths of Josephs in London, to narrow the search. The area Poplar seems to be a lead but even if i order this Birth Cert, i dont think this would help. His Birth Day seems to be 19th Sept. However, on his death & Marriage Cert it Says Born 1890. All Census records Seem to Point Towards Being born in 1892. Maybe the way forward is to order the birth certificate for Poplar to see if the date of birth is the 19th Sept.

Clara wasn't a Carter, so no joy there.

There are a lot of possible Joseph Carters born in London.

If you have his father, let us know. Otherwise the next thing is to find out why he was in Meriden with the Keatleys, and hope they were related in some way.
