ahh, I see. Now i have to figure out if thats true. Also did they have a habit of not baptising them till years after they was born ?

AnnCardiff Report 25 Feb 2010 13:21

that usually happens if the first son Robert dies - they have another and name that one Robert. Happened in my family with a Nancy - seemed to be fairly common back then

Darren if you go to this site it will take you to the parish reg of West sommerset and St Decummas.
I could not find him there but there are a lot of other parish churches to search.

thanks susan,

I have found a baptism in their parish church for a robert Bray 7th march 1819 and the parents were John and Susan .

I then found another Baptism for a Robert Bray 11 jan 1835 and the parents were John and Susannah.

I am a bit confused. Unsure if they are the same people. Doubt they would have had 2 sons and called them both Robert.

These ancestors dont make it easy for us do they ?

Just hope we are making it easy on our records to day for our future decendents.

is it right that you cannot get a birth certificate for someone who was born before 1837. I have just tried to get one for Robert Bray hoping that this will show his parents.

Ive got all the census, but I am struggling to find his parents, where he lived or if he had any brothers or sisters.
