Hi Sharon,

Did a search for kaveney female deaths between 1883/1891 and found the following:

ELLEN Kaveney aged 0 years June Quareter 1886
ELLEN Kaveney aged 30 years June Quarter 1886

Maybe mother & daughter, childbirth deaths?

I then did a search on any Ellen 1856 in Chesterfield on the 1881 census.

10 New Angel Yard Chesterfield

James COONEY 1851 coal miner born Ireland
Ellen COONEY 1857 wife born Chesterfield
Mary COONEY 1875 daur born Chesterfield
Catherine COONEY 1877 daur born Chesterfield
Andrew COONEY 1818 Father widower gardner born Ireland
Annie Cassidy 1865 sister-in-law childrens nurse born Chesterfield
Patrick Cassidy 1861 brother-in-law miner Chesterfield

Looking at the actual image, the spelling looks like CANVEY!

What do you think?

1881 that Ann has found is DEFINITELY Cavney. (Not even Canvey as Ann suggested - slip of the finger Ann?).

**Ann**

**Ann** Report 2 Mar 2010 09:24

Thanks MM! Yes by then a few fingers were slipping. Did you locate them on ancestry in the end?

Madmeg

Ancestry has transcribed them as Karenny.

So we have James in 1871, 81 and 91, and his likely marriage.

No sign yet in 1861, but maybe still in Ireland.

Not looked in 1901. Off to eat!

**Ann** Report 2 Mar 2010 20:40

Well that takes the biscuit! No wonder we cant find people we know should be there!

To answer your question was your grandma Annie the servant in 1891, well there's nothing you can do to prove it, other than look for another Annie in 1881 (I looked, can't see anything), in 1901, or a marriage to someone other than your grandad.
