On all his documents he has Smallwood as his middle name, he also uses it in the 1881 census, I also wondered if Smallwood had been his surname and was taken in by the Listers, but I can't find anything under Smallwood either

Thank you for replying. No, I can't find a birth cert. for him either, but he remarried in Scotland in 1922 and has given the names of the Aunt and Uncle he lived with in 1881 as his parents

I've searched Ancestry and FMP for Robert Smallwood Lister in 1891 census to no avail. I have him in both 1881 and 1901 census.
In 1881 he is living with his Aunt and Uncle in Cumberland, 1901 he is married and still in Cumberland.
He was born c1875, Cumberland, according to census

On searching for him on GR, I came across this

1 exact match for Robert Smallwood Lister in the 1891 Census

I still can't find him on either Ancestry or FMP.
Does anyone know why he's there on a GR census search and not anywhere else? Or am I just missing something here
