Trying to find the parents of my grandfather Harold William Chipperton, born June 29 1893. He was an illegitimate child and not sure if he was named Chipperton after his mother or father OR his adoptive family? Rumour has it the mothers surname was Chipperton, but she would have been unmarried and gave Harold away.

My family think the father was a doctor and the mother was a nurse or a maid. I think it would have been in London or Alton. My grandfather had referred to a brother and a sister, that he claimed were NOT blood relatives. Somewhere in the the thick of all this there is non-blood relative he called his sister that went by the name Flo - she was from Farnham and later in life she had 10 children. And to coincide with one of the posts below we think her name was Wiltshire or Spencer.

He went to the Gordon Boys school (back then it was The Gordon Boys Home) in West End, Woking (possibly around 1903 - 1907) and I've been told this was an expensive private school that was paid for by??? His real father?

During WW1 he was in the Royal Artillery.

He listed himself on his marriage certificate where it says 'father' - thats actually his own name and his profession - he was a gardener, he actually went on to be head gardener at Regents Park in London. Probably because he did not know his fathers name.

If you have any information please contact me.

Thanks for the info below - I am in the midst of sorting through it. THANK YOU!!

Sue Chipperton
