1861 census show three Alice Horrocks born Salford, one mother Maria and another mother Sarah?

Alice Horrocks Thomas,Martha abt 1851 Salford, Lancashire, England Daughter Ardwick, Lancashire

Alice Horrocks Maria abt 1851 Salford, Lancashire, England Daughter Salford, Lancashire

Alice Horrocks Sarah abt 1849 Salford, Lancashire, England Daughter Salford, Lancashire

so maybe the confusion comes from there.

You really need to get firm facts based on documentary evidence, which means buying certs.

Buy the marriage cert for the person of whom you are certain i.e. Alice

That will tell you the name and occupation of her father

Relying on anyone's research other than your own is liable to lead you down wrong lines.

How do you know the names of her 'sisters' if you aren't sure of her parentage?

You could start by buying the birth cert. for the girls, that will give you their mothers name!

My paternal gt grandmother was Alice Horrocks b1852 Salford. She had a sister Elizabeth and I think they both married Taylors, James and his eldest brother Joseph respectively. Sister Mary H Hoorocks lives with Joseph and Elizabeth in the 1881 census. Another GRU tree confirms this but says the girls parents are John Horrocks and Sarah Croft (and takes the Crofts way back)
but I cannot ratify this. The only thing I do know is that the mother dies or leaves and John remarries in 1854 a Maria (Harding?) who can be found with the girls but widowed in the 1861 census.
If anyone can help clarify and also take the Horrocks back further I would be grateful.
