Well found, FBG, ref 1901 census

I looked at the image for relationships etc - and made the elementary error of not checking ALL the info

The Craggs children are residing at Barlow's Yard - nestling between 77 Ryhope St. South, and the Queen's Head Inn. It would seem reasonable to deduce that they were in some sort of one-roomed dwelling in the back yard of the Barlow home.

I have deleted all references to the Barlow family, to avoid possible further confusion.

The marriage you posted looks very promising

Wild theory time..
Williams middle name is Williams,so a Craggs/Williams marriage search throws up this very likely one for his parents.
And using the Mary E from Passenger lists it would seem even better.
And it is in the correct Reg District.

Marriages Mar 1883
CRAGGS William Sunderland 10a 763
WILLIAMS Mary Elizabeth Sunderland 10a 763

But of course we still come back to the William Williams Craggs birth cert being the only real way forward,or back as the case may be,for proof.

I have to go now.
I will have another try later.

FannyByGaslight Report 31 Mar 2010 14:39

On the 1901 image William and Jane are not at the same address as the Barlows, but next door.

I have seen older children left at home that are working as William was like it on other census where the transcriber just lumps them in with one of the next door lot as they lack the word"head".

I'm going to have to go now - duty calls.

But I'll check in later to see how things are progressing

FannyByGaslight Report 31 Mar 2010 14:12

And the 1890 census of US has only about 1% that has survived I think,so he wont be found on it I dont think.

Maybe passenger lists?

I will check.

Flick

Flick Report 31 Mar 2010 14:03

I can't see him in 1891 - possibly in the States.

The birth cert for William (1885) will probably be needed to find father's details

I'll be around for 20 mins or so....................

Hope I wasn't treading on your toes FBG - not my intention

You will need to follow William back through the census, then his father to get that far back to see if it is correct.
You may have to buy some certificates along the way to verify everything.
Start with the 1911 census that I have posted and work back from there.

You cant just jump from William Craggs 1885 to Robert Craggs 1750 without the bit in between to prove it all.

Trebo may well be right, but wouldnt you like to see how?
To know it is so?

Rita

Hello Rita.

Then I believe I have the correct family in 911 census.

And correct parents marriage.

But his birth cert will confirm it
