Hi Choccy

What can I say, you are a gem.
I have looked at a number of sites re crew lists, but I could not find him. I have to admit I am new to this addiction, so I will state the skills are not the best.

Interesting that it has port of departure New York. Pop told the family that he left from southhampton. I wonder if there was another trip - England to America and then onto the camphill to Australia.
I must admit that we have established that pop did a fair amount of embelishment about his life.
Once again thanks

You're very welcome.

(Not sure which way ships travelled, but he possibly left England for New York and on to Australia).

Superb Choccy! Great detective work!

Now isn't interesting that Rose named her next son Thomas Alfred and had a daughter named Ruth! Looks like she kept in touch with the Ayres family.

She also called her 1st born girl Alice Mary Benham (Lewis) after her sister Alice and mother Mary.
I also checked Ancestry - 1901 census re William Herbert Benham, no luck, but when I tried Alfred Ayres it shows on the preview page, Alfred, Ann, Reginald and William H Benden, when you look at the writting it looks like Benham.
I will have to reseach the Ayres family as well.

Thanks to you both

I found a listing for Caterer
Rosanna ( Rose) Lewis (born Benham) B-1878 D-1944
She was apparently married 2s
first to a Lewis then to a Caterer.
That's all I know

D - Dianne's last post was over 2 years ago so I doubt she's looking back on here.
