There's a book about him - perhaps you can get hold of it via Interlibrary loan or perhaps the local studies library for the area might have it

Has anyone know his ancestry? He was born 1845 in Sunderland and became MD of Swan Hunter Shipyards. I have got his father as Thomas b 1805 and mother Elizabeth Rowntree. b 1810 but really need to find out info further back as to whether the family came from The Shetlands. Would be v grateful if anyone could help !
