Maybe it's just me but I'm struggling a bit to find her birth and marriage. What was your grandfather's full name?

Maybe you've searched for her birth - there isn't one for that name!

But there's a Clara registered in Plymouth in 1882 (and a Clara Ann in Totnes in 1880).

Do you have a subscription at a site where you can search censuses?

What you need is at least her birth certificate for her parents' names.

Since it might not be clear what her name was when her birth was registered, you might have to start with her marriage certificate, which will give her father's name.

You can find the info for ordering a certificate at FreeBMD - the link up above. Free marriage, birth and death registration info. ;)

Mother of Joan Francis (nee Hannaford b. Kent c 1920). Clara was my gran and died when I was about 5 (1967) so she would have been born c. 1885 as she was about 80 when she died. She had three daughters, Margeret, Joan & Phyllis. They were all brought up in Plymouth after my Grandad was invalided out of the Army (Red Caps - Military Police). Mum died and I really know little about her side of the family. Any help would be gratefully received. Gordon
