I am having real difficulty finding people.
I have a marriage as follows...
Annie Maria Rogers married William Johns 1882 Lewisham
Her father is William Rogers and his is Richard Edward Johns.
Trouble is,I can find Annie and William on censuses after the marriage, but not before
She was born 1861 and he 1859,but I can't even see births that fit on freebmd!!
Hoped to find with their fathers so I could get a start..
Help please!

What area was Annie Maria born?

Have you checked various spellings such as Rodgers under Freebmd (there's a few listed under Ann Maria) eg 1859 and 1862?

:)

also what were father's occupations on marr cert

Jany

Jany Report 24 Apr 2010 14:56

Fathers are William Rogers a labourer and Richard Johns a builder labourer .
The later censuses give places of birth for both William and Annie as...1891 Notting Hill and 1901 Torquay Devon..not a lot of difference!!
1891 they are in Notting Hill,1901 in Plymouth.
Also in 1901 William becomes Charles.
This is all confusing..I can't get birth certs as I can't work out which ones to get.

Vera
Thank you that does seem to fit.
Being he never gives the same place of birth ANYWHERE is possible.
Funnily enough William actually died in Cornwall,so this is a real possibility.
Maybe he came to London and met Annie????

Thank you very much for the 1861.
I thought that the parents seemed old for the ages of William and Reuben, but the older children make sense

Hi Vera
Yes,the mother does seem too old,but not impossible I suppose.
Maybe there are even older children and he is a grandson?
This family are such a mix up...I might get the birth cert out of curiosity!
