Does the occupation on Helens marriage cert for her father add to being about the same sort of job as on census for him..?

If it does then that should clinch it.

Hi ladies.
Glad to say I have now got the wedding details. They wed on 9th Feb, James is the son of James & Margaret (Wilson) and Mary is the daughter of Duncan Mcgregor & Binnie Catherine Gibb ? not sure about this, bad writing. I still cant find a Birth record of helen t as yet.
My F in law was a navy man, and he met H up in Scotland, I have a record of their Banns, he was on board ship, and she went to a local church, they were wed in Caversham, nr Reading.
Just hoping the census is the right one. Thanks.

And they turned up didnt they?

{any info on James Mckenzie b c1870 married to Grace Mcgregor bc1872. Known children are Robert- Frances- Dorothy- Margaret- and Ellen b 6/8/1899. James and Grace were living at 62 Parkside Street , Rosyth, Dunfermaline in 1928. Grace died 18/9/1936. In 1920 Ellen was living in St Stevens Place, Edinburgh. working as a shop assistant, she left to get married to George Hatton, in Reading, Berks and died there in 1963.}


Why were people looking at the 1901 and 1911 England Census?

Surely the family were in Scotland according to Terry ......or am I having yet

another senior moment ???

If it has taken your 5 credits then you have the record but you then have to click on that to open another window which will show the whole record

It looks like James had a middle name of Treadwell and Mary Gracie had a 3rd name of Helen (possibly)

You can easily install it I am sure,I managed it and I am totally illiterate on computer stuff.

Cant remember how though ,dear oh me I must remember to take my memory pills one day...

No, I dont have Java. I had a bug in my PC and had to get another one, I did have it on the old one. Thanks again, its a good job your out there willing to help.

1 Credit gets you that.

You then have to click on view where it says 5 credits and you will be able to download/print off the marriage cert that will be on view.

Do you have Java Script installed?you need that to see the marriage cert for your 6 credits in all.

It will have the couples ages,occupations,and both parents names including mothers maiden name,plus all the usual other things.

can you please tell me what to expect from my search. I found the wedding of James and Mary, paid my 5 credits, and all I received was the names, year, and place, plus a data number, no other details ?.

Terry you can use wildcards when searching on SP. Surnames beginning with Mac or Mc sometimes changed over the years and even within the same generation. When searching for a Mac or Mc if you enter the surname as M*Kenzie it will give results for McKenzie and MacKenzie..

When you are searching remember that you will get up to 23 search results on a page for your 1 credit. So when searching for the children of a marriage try putting in the date range for possible births and if you know it select then County. If that gives more than 23 results reduce the number of years until your results are listed on only 1 page. Don't put the Christian name in because this may not been the same as they have been registered (as on Grace's marraige where it looks like she was Mary Grace but known as Grace). Similarly Ellen's marriage entry may have her as Helen or Ellen and Margaret could be Margaret, Maggie, Peggie etc. on her marriage entry.

When searching for deaths you can put in a year of birth + /- a couple years to cover your options. Female deaths can be searched using both maiden surname and married surname. When researching deaths of a married couple always look for the female death first as her death certificate will say "married to" or "widow of" and therefore reduce the timescale to search for her husbands death.

Good luck with your search and once you use Scotlandspeople you will wish all you ancestors were Scottish. It can be much cheaper if you get the correct entry first time it is only costing £1.20 per entry as opposed to £9.25 for each English certificate and as has been said - no waiting for the postie!

But the info on Scottish certs is so much better than on English/Welsh,far cheaper for the viewable ones and instant to look at.
