OK, let's see what we have confirmed.
Charles must have been born in 1871/2, as per the marriage record.
His wife is correct, and from living relatives, can confirm Catherine as his wife, her birthplace, and death place and date.
So the parish registry SylviaC is correct, and we can use that as our reference point.
The fact I have discovered his father's name as John and NOT Charles is a big plus, and explains why nothing has matched up.

Julie, the reason I wanted to confirm either way Albert and Alfred is because 4 or more children hadn't been born at the time of the 1911 census. I do believe that there were 9 children in total, including Peter, so no room for the other two, and that they may well have been middle names. All of the siblings in that family had pet names I found out, and even now I am trying to sift through the sisters and their children, as they keep using pet names mixed with real names.

I can't get any further with finding Charles b. 1872, father John though!

Taylors are very difficult .................. one branch of OH's family is Taylor, but htey're all from the Yorkshire/Westmorland area.

OK, digesting this information, and apologies...have been tracing census' to try and find names.

Sylvia, I think you are correct in 1872 being his birth year.

I stuffed up badly a while ago on another branch putting a relative in, that turned out to be same name age and birth place, but the wrong relative. I am starting to wonder if the elderly relatives I sourced information from have also got it mixed up.

Please help me straighten this out, and perhaps finding the ancestors might become a bit easier.

Look at the name of his father on the parish register for his wedding!!!!

It says father was JOHN

But he is apparently deceased by 1901

I have a problem

The 1911 Census that you show has Charles' birth year as ca 1872

The information on the parish register for his wedding shows him as age 30 in 1901 ..... which translates to a birth year of 1872

You say he was born in 1882.

The 1891 Census shows a Charles Taylor with wife Ellen, and a son age 9 this born ca 1882.

These two facts counter one another

Why on earth would he lie on his marriage and on the 1911 census??

OK, so he could have added 10 years to his age because Catherine was aged 26 ............ but in my experience, people who do that, slowly lose the extra years as they progress!

are we in fact dealing with more than one Charles Taylor???????????????

I have had another look through the census, and 1881 gives a Charles Taylor married to Ellen, born in Bethnal Green. 1861 census confirms this, but there is no 1871 census to check on.

Looks as if Alfreds middle name was Arthur

Where has the name Albert come from cos i can't see him on the 1911 that you posted

So that nobody goes searching for the 1911 census, I have reposted it here, thanks to a kind member that searched it for me. Why the children are listed as being born all over the place, I have no idea.
Would also like to add, the birth year for Charles in the 1911 census should read 1882, not 1872.

I am now trying to find information for JAMES TAYLOR. Grandfather of Charles. Born C1797, and married to Elizabeth.

Thanks in advance.
