I have research in to Alice Anstey birth certificate and was told louisa was the mother and thomas the father. Edward the youngest of the anstey family was in the army, and it states is next of kin was his mother Louisa Miles. He join the army in 1916, he lived in Tudor street abergavenny. So i think the four anstey children did belong to her and not John miles

EDIT

Sorry Jax - I just noticed you had posted that death while I was searching about!

Pat, Do you have the birth certificates for those all those Anstey children? Was Louise the mother to any of them? Could they have been adopted or foster children of John's rather than Step children in the way we mean today?

Pat

Pat Report 16 May 2010 10:11

Yes that Thomas the father to the other children, I believe there were four which you have already gave me the info.
I still need to know where Leonard fits in. I am reallywondering wether he had a different name, or was given to them?

Mary

Mary Report 16 May 2010 10:11

So Louisa was born 1870 according to 1911 census and had William 1883,something wrong somewhere.

Hi Mary,

On his Wedding certificate it stated miles otherwise anstey, but he used the name anstey throughout his married life, my mothers name was anstey. I dont know why he used that name it could have been he was using the name of his step-brothers and sister and he didnt want people know. according to a family member he had a good relationship with John Miles who died in 1943

Pat

Pat Report 16 May 2010 09:51

I have had a look at miles anstey and jones, but i cant come up with anything. I tried abergavenny registra who told me they did get married but she used the name anstey, but i forgot to ask what year. Louisa was previously married to a thomas ansty who died in 1943 aged 37 that i found her maiden name. I had to look into one of the other childrens birth certificates to find the mothers maiden name of alice anstey.

Mary

Mary Report 16 May 2010 09:50

1901 they were together as man and wife so Leonard was definately a Miles, but yet he married and died as Anstey is that correct.

Maybe he had a big fall out with his real dad.

Just because they said they were married, doesnt mean to say they were or maybe not as long as they said

Pat

Pat Report 16 May 2010 09:21

Thank for the information. I have already looked in to that marriage. I have found out that her maiden name was Jones. But still cant find a birth certificate. Louisa was a jones then anstey, then miles. IAccording to the 1911 cenus leonard was nine and they had be married for nine years.

Could Leonard's birth be registered in the surname that his mother was using before she married John Miles, please?

Is this her marriage to John - they may have married after Leonard was born.
