Yes! The combination of Daisy Violet and Ethel, with their ages, and in Whitchurch. Charles E. must have been older than we thought - nothing surprising there. Thank you Choccy!

Morning Dorothy,

As Madmeg says 'you have to know where to look' and have subscriptions to the various sites available.

I am just one of many 'helpers' on GR (who I must admit enjoys a bit of a challenge).

Finding the family tree on the Ancestry site was definitely a bonus!

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 22 May 2010 00:04

I'm sure Choccy will answer you, but here on GR none of us "helpers" are likely to be related to people who ask questions - we (I speak for myself only!) are just a bunch of sad nerds who like researching and know where to look.

Once someone gets a handle on your family, they can find stuff out very rapidly.

Dorothy

Dorothy Report 21 May 2010 22:54

Thank you Choccy that's a lot of information, I shall start working on it: There are two of Charles and Bertha's children living: Norma and Violet . There are also 35 or more grandchildren, and some great grandchildren. Are you related? You seem to have the information at hand - or do you just know where to look?

Dorothy

Dorothy Report 21 May 2010 20:56

That's wonderful: I'll follow them up and see what happens. How very kind people are!

According to age at death he must have been born c1884.

You really need his marriage cert for a better idea of his age.

Charles E died in 1950, in Liverpool - that's the only thing that I'm absolutely certain about, as I was 4 at the time, and I remember it. The record of deaths indicate he was 66 which conflicts with my mother's information.

Dorothy

Dorothy Report 21 May 2010 18:12

I'm sure of the Stevens. The family may have lived in Whitchurch Hants when Charles and Violet were born: Violet, who didnt marry, lived there till she died, and her grandchildren remember local people saying the family had lived there a long time (I only heard that today)

Dorothy

Dorothy Report 21 May 2010 17:57

I'm astonished and a bit overwhelmed by the rapid response: thank you.

My mother (Violet, born 1923, daughter of Charles Edmund) knows very little about her father's family: Charles Edmund Stevens was "a year or two" younger than his wife, Bertha, who was born in 1900. Violet was younger than him, and lived in Whitchurch, Hampshire in later life, and that is probably where the family came from. She never married. Now my mother's just told me there were other siblings, including a sister Ethel. (Mum's 87, her memory's not the best but she's trying to help)
Charles was married, and spent the rest of his life, in Liverpool, where he died in 1950 after being an invalid for some years (I remember that)
