I would say that Jonas is not such a popular name, compared with William, and that is why I think the connection I have found is valid. As I think about it I think that Jonas and Robert will be siblings and that William will be the son of Jonas, just going on the date of births from the census......just checking Rudstone it is showing in the East Riding of Yorks, near Brid-JLe

And my William was cloth dresser, though his son George (1834), my 2x gt grandfather was a warehouseman

Interesting Janet, a Jonas Bower 1938 is a son of William. Is he named after his grandfather or uncle or is Jonas a common name.

Hello Harold
Just back with information that hopefully just needs fine tuning. I have found a bapt of a Jonas Bower 18th June 1783 to a William Bower and Jane Wright in Rudston Yorkshire, no idea where that is at the moment, but it doesn't matter. On the census I have found a Robert Bower in Crosland Moor born 1791 but I couldn't read his place of birth which I now realise says Rudston. That is the connection between Bower/Rudston/ Crosland Moor. Incidently all these men are connected, Cloth finishers/dressers. Robert Bower was born 1791 so he may be a brother to Jonas. I know I haven't answered your question but I feel there may be something to look at. No doubt a second person might just sort out the exact connection. -JLe

Hello Harold
I am just having a browse at the 1841 census at possibilities for relatives of your William Bower. I notice that he is living in 'Far Moor' and there is another Bower born 1786 (rounded down)called Jonas Bower with dau Ann aged 25 and son George aged 7 living 'Far Moor'. Whilst this isn't proof it may be worth bearing in mind. I have local knowledge and I don't know this name/area. Nowadays there is still an area of Crosland Moor but the 'far end' is always known as Crosland Hill.
I do occasionally go to the library and the fhs in Huddersfield. I will put your request down and try and check for info next time I go.

Hi Flick, no such luck - Bridget, eldest born 1833. I have searched in Ancestry for Parish baptisms etc but got nowhere. Also a Peter Lindley gave me some of his notes (done in the 90's) where he tried to establish a link with the LINDLEYS - he identified offsprings and mentioned Thomas and John but no more

I am trying to find more about William Bower (b1807 Crosland Moor, Huddersfield, married Sarah Lindley). His father may have been Thomas and one sibling could possibly be John (lodger with William 1851 census). I know quite a bit about William's descendents but need to know more about his parents and siblings. Pease help
