Marriages Dec 1903
Day Clara Birmingham 6d 39
Shelley William Birmingham 6d 39

Perhaps , if you were tp purchase this marriage certificate, it will give you his fathers name & occupation. We know from the 1891 census that his mother was Elizabeth Shelley .widow, so with his fathers name it may be easier to find the correct marriage of parents.

Still can,t find my grandmothers birth registration (Elizabeth Shelley) born C 1882. Have obtained her marriage cert, married at 19years on Dec 23rd 1900 in B'ham.

Her mother (G Grandma) was Elizabeth Shelley nee Mitchell, married to William Shelley in 1884. They produced a son, William Fredrick James Shelley on the14th Nov 1884 Portland Dorset.

Is it possible that Grandma Elizabeth ( 1st para above) was also their child? William F. J. Shelly's older sister. Did her birth go unregistered ? I need to establish and prove that link.

Thanks in anticipation, David

Moody Blue Report 26 Sep 2010 20:26

If Elizabeth Shelley b 1882 was the daughter of Elizabeth Shelley nee Mitchell , she would have been born before her mothers marrige to William Shelley. Perhaps she was born Elizabeth Mitchell and assumed the name Shelley after her mothers marriage?

maybe one to consider?

"(Elizabeth Shelley) born C 1882. Have obtained her marriage cert, married at 19years on Dec 23rd 1900 in B'ham."

Who did it say was her father on this marriage certificate?

Parents of the Mitchell children in 1871 census:-

Marriages Jun 1856
MITCHELL John Shadrach Russell Weymouth 5a 586
STONE Mary Weymouth 5a 586

marriage of Mary Mitchell nee Stone to John White:

Marriages Sep 1864

Mitchell Mary Weymouth 5a 546

Mitchell childrens births:

Births Jun 1857
Mitchell John Shadrach Russell Weymouth 5a 325

Births Jun 1860
MITCHELL Mary Read Weymouth 5a 333

Births Sep 1862
MITCHELL Elizabeth Fu[s_][n_]ard s/b (Fuzzard) Weymouth 5a 324

Elizabeth Mitchell born 1862 Dorset is wife of William F Shelley born 1861 Birmingham.
John White born 1824 Dorset is step father of Elizabeth Mitchell born 1862.
In 1891 census, Elizabeth Shilley born 1882 Weymouth is grandaughter of John White b 1824
So it is more and more probable that Elizabeth 1882 is the daughter of Elizabeth 1862 & William Shelley 1861.
