Yes Mel - I think that IS them. their son John certainly settled in the Trevethin area - in fact, I have just found the Baptist church where their great granddaughter got married and that in the Trevethin area too.

Mary - that is interesting as I found a death for Israel in Bristol in 1806 (although I have question marks next to it in my notebook!). But I think perhaps it may be more likely (Pontypool is in the Trevethin area too).

I was working on the basis that John was born in Bristol.

Im still a bit confused, but maybe for different reasons now!

One tree says his parents were Israel Pascoe 1746 and Hannah.
There was a death for Israel in Pontypool 1803 so it could be correct.

Lol - certainly would Anne! Do you think then, that I have got this wrong and he was born in Somerset? (His son, John, was born in Hanham, Bristol - just a stones throw from Mangotsfield where Martha herself was born).

I was very surprised to find a Scottish connection. As you say, its a long way and really doesnt seem feasible but I guess you can never be sure.

Funny how everyone else has something different (but the same as each other) and I dont understand why I didnt find the same thing!

Don't take everything on LDS as gospel, there are lots of errors as many of the entry's are submitted and therefore not 100% true.

Bristol will come under Somerset

Back in those days it would have been a mammoth journey from Ayr to Bristol though!!!

I am getting confused.

I found, what I thought was my ancester, John Pascoe on LDS. He was, according to them, born in 1766 in Ayr in Scotland and was married to Martha Newman who was born in the Bristol area.

I have found around 10 trees on Ancestry with much the same information as myself, ie married to Martha, date of marriage and deaths are the same as mine, many of the children and their dates are the same.

But.... everyone else has John born in Somerset! I dont know where I have gone wrong here. How accurate is the info on LDS? (I always try to double check all my research anyway) I dont understand how I can have got this so so different from everyone else. Ive been back to LDS and the info is quite clearly there.

Im very confused here.....
