Hi Gayle,
Now I understand.....
That's from the 1901 census. It's just a transcription error-they all read Hidden on the image, but the next household is Drinkwater and Ancestry has managed to intertwine the 2 households so that it looks as though they are one family.
They're not!

As I said in my e-mail,Gayle,I'm stumped. That sure looks like Holtom or Holton to me! Do let us know what it says on Joseph's cert.
Have you looked in Search Trees? Someone else seems to have Charles Faultless on there.

HI Maureen. I have emailed you through hotmail due to not being able to attach the scanned images through here. I hope this is okay for you.

Hi Gayle,
I'll PM you my e-mail addy so that I can take a look. It's odd that her birth certificate would have been altered. Have you considered getting the one from 1894? (or is there some point that I'm not grasping?)

My daughter is helping me search for all the missing pieces aswell, she has just ordered Joseph Hiddens Birth Certificate from Worcestershire and should be sent out by 29th June if not earlier if they find it, maybe then we will find out if his and bessie's parents are the same people or if Mary was "holton" like on my nans birth certificate?
Also, would it be possible to send you either a scanned copy of my nans birth certificate which I have here or to send it through the post as a copy that I can print so you can read it and see what you make of it? I find it unlikely that the "Holton" name on it isn't correct but then she may be hiding her name or something.

You're welcome Maureen but I still don't see how Holton can be anything like Faultless!

PS-So who did that? (the corrections to the 1901) I hadn't refreshed (thought I had).

According to a change made on the 1901 where James is a Jobbing Gardener Mary was Mary Faultless.
Which means that this could be the marriage of Elizabeth Faultless to Mr. Wright

Marriages Sep 1891 (>99%)
>>Faultless Elizabeth Staines 3a 24
James Harriet Minnie Staines 3a 24
THOMAS Cadwallader Staines 3a 24
>>Wright Henry Staines 3a 24

So this would be Mary's marriage

Marriages Mar 1884 (>99%)

Barnett James Dudley 6c 28
>>Faultless Mary Dudley 6c 28
>>HIDDEN William Henry J Dudley 6c 28
WASSELL Mary Ann Dudley 6c 28

So James did not become William Henry between 1901 and 1911 I suspect he was William Henry James and chose to call himself James.

That is puzzling,Gayle. I just don't see a marriage for HOLTON and HIDDEN. But you say that at the time of their marriage they were living at 15 Poplar Rd? (or did you mean when Emily was born that's where they were living?)
I do hope that H.Elizabeth's birth certificate will shed a little more light on the subject.

Best,
Maureen

Uh-yes-do get the marriage cert.
You obviously have Emily Maud*s birth certificate.

I'm still a little bit confused, Was Emily's Mum"s maiden name difficult to read?
