Eringobragh1916,

what fantastic results with the Irish 1901 and 1911 census..... think Patrick and his wife will be well chuffed!!

I would image our Patrick will be back later this evening, but your supersluething with Patrick Shanahan has really taken it back to their home country and to find Tom O'Brien there... well I never (no wonder I couldn't find a death!!). I wonder if Julia ( the wifes Grandmother) was sent to Uncle Tom O'Brien as I would think that Grandmother Kate would have passed on by then??

Now any chance you want to have a gander at my Irish lot???

I'm only back in from work and have just checked this thread. What an absolute avalanche of information, when you all get your teeth into something you just don't let go. My wife is over the moon and can't thank you all enough, as does her own mother Lucy (Julia's daughter). We also learned today from Lucy that she knew of 3 sisters of Julia, they were Minnie, Rose and Kate but nothing about anyone else. Julia was sent to Co. Waterford but to who is a mystery. Julia then seems to have headed to Co. Kerry when she was about 17 where she married a local man. My wife would be thrilled to find out about her Welsh cousins!!!

Eringobragh1916 Report 9 Jun 2010 15:36

Patrick...Have found the following for Wales..( Way out of my comfort zone !!)
On the 1911 census (posted by VaiT) for James and Rosina there is listed a Maurice Stanley aged 4..
Maurice Stanley went onto marry a Violet J. Miners in Swansea Reg.Sept.1929.
There were children of that marriage which I will send to you on a PM as they may still be living.

Eringobragh1916 Report 9 Jun 2010 15:53

Patrick...Have just found this...accounts for only the 2 children..(As per my PM)

Deaths Swansea :
O'Brien Violet "E". aged 30 Years .Registered. March 1934.
Initial has changed but could be a transcription error.

Have been trying to get our heads around the various relations you have all found for us and how these relations are connected to one another!! We're still trying to work out when Julia came to Ireland? We thought it was straight after her mother Rosina Llewellyn died in 1921 but apparently not. Julia seems to have lived with her father James and her new stepmother after he remarried for a spell. Could someone please help find out when James remarried?

Thanks,
Patrick.

Hi Patrick,

this is the only Swansea marriage that I can see;

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marriages Dec 1929 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

O'Brien James Town Swansea 11a 2010
Town Sarah A O'Brien Swansea 11a 2010

This is only presuming that he stayed in this registration district though.

Patrick...Could not find any children of the above marriage..
Sarah Annie Town Birth was reg Sept.1900 Swansea...

Patrick Report 10 Jun 2010 11:42

Thanks for that. The year 1929 for the marriage would fit in as the Julia did recall before her death 2-3 years ago having some recollections of her stepmother. My wife has just found an old photo (no date) of Julia as a very young child with her father James and the unknown stepmother!! My wife has also got in touch with one of her Aunts, a daughter of Julias and she has some old letters etc that might help further with the puzzle.

Eringobragh1916 Report 10 Jun 2010 15:56

Patrick...Some indication of when Julia came to Ireland may be found in the Marriage Reg at the Church where she married...It ought to have details of her Baptism and Confirmation...also if she was under 21 when she married there would need to be a written consent to the PP from her Father or the eldest Male relative....

Have you been able to confirm we are following the correct O'Brien family...?

Have found the marriage of a Minnie O'Brien to an Ivor Parry 1930 ..Does that ring any bells...?

..

Patrick Report 10 Jun 2010 21:44

Hello again.

Julia got married when she was 18 in Killarney, Co. Kerry. We know she left Waterford when she was 16 and although she received letters from family in Waterford she never returned nor wrote back!! We're going to the church where she got married to check their records as recommended. We still believe that we are investigating the right O'Briens as all info seems to match up. Don't know if 'our 'Minnie married Mr. Ivor Parry, we're still putting the jigsaw together but all help gratefully received!! thanks.
