Hi everyone, there are often messages on here about the fact that people are not returning to their threads to find the work done for them and, as many know, I send messages out to help those who may be struggling with the site.

This week, I received an unpleasant pm from someone I had tried to help . They had replied by pm to helpers and objected to the message I sent, but how was I to know they had already been in touch with their helpers?

So.....I just wondered if helpers would be willing to post on threads if they receive a pm from the poster as it would give others an idea of whether the work has been seen.

Or is there something else we could do?

It's just so nice to get a message from someone who had no idea that they would get so much help from all of you and would have missed out on what had been found for them. Makes it all worthwhile.

Thanks :))

Cx.

Hi Cynthia,

PLEASE do keep up the good work.!!

I too have received 'hate mail' in the past but it has been far outweighed by the excited 'thank you's which I have received.

Put it to one side and carry on with what you are doing !!!

I will gladly post if I receive a pm. !

Best wishes,

Dea Xxx

P.S. - are you the same Cynthia who has to keep averting her eyes on Ginny's thread (Tee hee!!)

Keep up the good work cynthia.
I know I was very grateful to be pointed in the right direction when I first ventured onto the board.

As we are all too well aware. some people on here have no manners so I wouldn't worry about the odd snotty comment from someone who doesn't know any better.
On their behalf, thank you

Thanks Dea, so you'll post on a thread if you have contact with a poster? Wouldn't half save me some time too!!

It's not going to put me off...too many nice messages received. Just thought this idea may help a bit.

Love. Cx.

Shall try and do that,C.
Although -a lot of the time when I get Personal Messages I have no clue to what thread they refer without a lot of backtracking. That was my lazy excuse. If you can keep after people the way you do,I should be able to find a thread!!!

Thanks again for all your hard work.

just had a lovely reply

"Thank you for your information. I was on line late last night and left the TONNER post last thing. Just wasn't expecting such a rapid and full response. wow. I have a proven link to some TONNER family in Lanarkshire but see so many others i need help in finding the right line. Thought someone might recognise the address. I also have info on a relative being married in Chatham , Kent . I noticed on first scan of the info that a TONNER was in prison there. I'll check that out. Cheers
From Mike "

Cynthia,

I usually do just that for the reasons you mention, asking them to return to their thread with an update........have not met any objectors yet!!

I think some people may see it as "butting in" on their space so to speak, not really understanding how the threads work etc.

However I suspect these people are few and far between, so keep up the good work and do not take it to heart.

Annx

Yes Dea....it's me.....my eyes ache from being averted sometimes!!

Anne, I've just had a lovely reply from the Tonner thread too!

I have to smile when I see comments from helpers saying that someone hasn't returned and they need some feedback from them.......I've sent a message to the person and had a reply to the effect .....'I can't sit around waiting for replies all day'.......lol..

Thanks for all feedback folks. Very grateful. Cx

can i just add that i always go out of my way to say thank you, and help is always so much appreciated, it always amazes me how good the helpers on here are, i have to say tho i posted a request for help a while i go and recieved some great information which i acknowledged on the thread and thanked and also changed heading to say thank you, and the next day returned to the post to find comments made about my lack of acknowledgement!!!
This site reallys confuses me sometimes as you cant seem to do right for doing wrong lol
Can i also say that the written word never comes across in the same way as spoken as there is no expression to it, therefore sometimes peoples comments can be misconstrued one way or another, Some people just arent very good at expressing themselves.

Marueen, Im glad its not just me that cant remember what the hell people are on about when they PM with ref to a thread....well actually no ref!!

I do post the PM on the thread to keep everyone up to speed

However...there is no excuse for rudeness to our Cynthia, she is just trying to help

If the person knows about their responses to their post and have acknowledged by PM to the helpers then why cant they just say that.....in a nice way

Or even better, if the post is not about living people.....then post back on there and everyone is kept in the loop

Sheesh..it's not rocket science!

I can't believe people could be so nasty. I've had so much assistance from helpers and think all of you out there are doing a fantastic job.

Being in Australia we get a bit out of wack with the time and if there are interuptions in the flow of messages because Australia or England has to go to bed I try to send a message to the helper's post and also put the same message on the Trying to find Board.

I appreciate all the hard work the helpers have done for me - please keep it up and ignore those knockers!

Best wishes
