Astra, It looks to me like ( Dec) shortened for as you said deceased.

There is a possibility of course that he may have been illegitimate and made up both his father and his occupation.

Is there anyway of checking ? Can you find his Mother ?
Do you mean he is not really a Latchford or that his mother was a Latchford ?
It is odd that There is nothing on the earlier census for Samuel as a small boy at home with his parent isn't it.

He may have been born under a different name and his mother later married a Latchford or he may have been told as an adult that his father was called Latchford and changed his name accordingly. Just don't know I'm afraid. I will have another look later if no-one has found him but I have to go now.

Is there anyway of checking the census by address and see if you can find 29 Colombia Road on a couple please ?

There is a Private tree on Ancestry that has him. Would you like me to see if I can contact the tree owner and see if they are willing to share any information?

Thanks for that Astra, I just wondered it there was suddenly going to be something to tie in to Latchford. These wouldn't work out.
I suppose he may have been lodging there at time of the wedding.
