Well I was told, this is a bit controversial, that James actually met Violet when she was pregnant and walking into the sea . . . He took her in, took care of her, and obviously they had children etc. But yes I was confused at that, if he was younger than some of his siblings . . .

so it looks as though all the children were Cocks, although Violet wasn't married to him, hence registered in both names.

Presumaby he was married to someone else at the time although I cannot image she was. She was 25 ish when she had the first child with Cocks, so the first marriage (if there wasone) was less that (max) 9 years even if she married at 14, (assuming she didn't until she was 18)

Hi guys, sorry about my internet problems last night. Sue, my dad said it's possible Adelaide used her middle name Barbara as her name, he had only heard of Barbara and it makes sense if her middle initial was B. Apparently Harold was 4 or 5 years younger than Edgar, so around 1927-1928 ish?
I'll keep looking into it, this family is so confusing, my mum's side of the family was SO much easier to find out about!

Is she supposed to have had any children with the first husband, Mr Samson? What happened to him?

Well I'm mystified by Mr Samson, as I can't find any marriage record between them, nor any children born to Samson or Eddy.

Yes Edgar was born 1933, and my Dad said Harold was about 4 or 5 years younger, which makes sense with the story of James meeting Violet when pregnant. I've actually found a Harry Eddy born 1927 in Penzance.
